Metro Exodus: Successor fully playable, Release 2024?

A destroyed ruin can be seen in the game world.

With Metro Exodus, the third part of the single-player shooter series from 4A Games, the developers landed a real hit in 2019. Not only the trade press was largely enthusiastic about the post-apocalyptic setting, the grandiose story or the immersive gameplay, the community and fans also responded positively to the game. With six million units sold, Metro Exodus was also a financial success. That’s why it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that the former Ukrainian game studio 4A Games is already working hard behind the scenes on a sequel that is said to be fully playable at the moment. There is also speculation about a release in just a few months.

Sequel to Metro Exodus well advanced

The Metro video game series is considered by many fans to be a faithful adaptation of the Metro 2033 book series and universe of the same name by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky. The single-player shooter series now has three offshoots, most recently Metro Exodus, which was released in 2019 (buy now ).

A sequel to this game has been in development for some time. 4A Games announced work on the sequel back in 2020, and the game should now be fully playable. The developer studio writes on their website:

“It’s no secret that we’ve already started work on the next Metro game. With everything we’ve learned over the past 15 years, we’ve set our sights even higher – the next title will be for Gen 9 consoles and PC, with a complete overhaul of our engine and renderer to take advantage of the new performance, memory and hardware-assisted ray tracing offered by the new consoles.”

Release already known?

What exactly the new game will be about is not yet known. Nevertheless, the team at 4A Games wants to focus on the strengths of the series:

That actually sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? And it could even be that we don’t have to wait long for the first concrete details: According to insider Tom Henderson, the game should be officially presented this year and appear as early as 2024.
