Bungie: Cheat provider has to pay $ 4.3 million

A seller of Destiny 2 cheats has been ordered to pay Bungie $4.3 million in damages.

Bungie asks another provider of cheats to checkout. As early as 2021, Bungie sued the Aimjunkies site and its parent company Phoenix Digital.

The lawsuit was initially dismissed in part in Seattle federal court last year because Bungie could not adequately explain why the cheat software should constitute an unauthorized copy of Destiny 2.

However, the case was referred to arbitration amid claims of violation of the DMCA’s anti-circumvention provisions. Bungie argued that the third-party developer responsible, James May, circumvented the technical protection measures and continued to do so after being caught and banned several times.

While May didn’t work for Aimjunkies, she was reverse engineered to create scam software.

Bungie has now been awarded $4,296,222 by the arbitral tribunal.

The developer has referred the arbitration panel’s decision to federal court and issued an injunction against Aimjunkies to stop the provider from doing similar activities.
