Mini-PC: Minisforum announces global release of the Venus UM773 Lite

from Yusuf Hatic
Manufacturer Minisforum has announced the global launch of the Venus UM773 Lite Mini PC, which is equipped with a current Ryzen 7 7000 processor and DDR5 RAM, among other things.

The Mini-PC Venus UM773 Lite from Minisforum, presented on January 7, 2023, is now also being sold globally: As the company announces, the compact computer, as a “versatile and reliable” system, is an inexpensive choice for office, multimedia and gaming applications . This should succeed with the AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS, which is reminiscent of the Ryzen 9 6900HX in terms of technical specifications, but is equipped with a slightly lower base clock of 3.2 GHz – but the power consumption is slightly lower at 54 watts. The integrated graphics unit, on the other hand, remains identical to the Radeon 680M.

The DDR5 support with regard to the main memory, which can amount to up to 64 GB in the dual channel of the Venus UM773 Lite, depending on the customer’s requirements, also remains the same. According to Minisforum, these are DDR5-4800 bars in SODIMM format. When it comes to internal storage, the new mini PC relies on the now standard M.2 SSDs with PCIe 4.0 interface, which should have a capacity of 512 GB or one terabyte, depending on requirements. The compact computer also has another slot for 2.5-inch HDDs.

Two of the USB 3.2 ports used in previous models have been replaced by classic USB 2.0 ports in the Venus UM773 Lite. Minisforum justifies this step with the fact that “users usually connect external keyboards and mice via cable”, which makes it necessary to return to the older standard. After all: A USB4 connection is also on board, which can be used to play up to 8K resolution at 60 Hertz, and the two HDMI connections also transmit 4K resolutions at 60 Hertz. The standard should therefore at least be HDMI 2.0, even if Minisforum does not provide any further details here.

According to Minisforum, one of the selling points for the Venus UM773 Lite Mini-PC is the cooling, which is intended to ensure a cool and quiet system with efficient heat dissipation without sacrificing performance compared to its predecessors. In addition, the manufacturer advertises the latest model as an inexpensive solution. The cost point for the barebone version is 409 US dollars, the surcharge for the respective memory configuration reads as follows:

  • Minisforum Venus UM773 Lite 16+512GB – $559
  • Minisforum Venus UM773 Lite 32+512GB – $619
  • Minisforum Venus UM773 Lite 32GB+1TB – $659
  • Minisforum Venus UM773 Lite 64GB+1TB – $789

The global sales start of the Minisforum Venus UM773 Lite is to take place immediately. So far the official website released for the US market – customers in Germany and Europe have to be patient for reasons that are not known. Accordingly, no euro price is known for the different storage variants – but this should be in a similar range as in the USA.
