Hogwarts Legacy: A tentacle monster lives in the Great Lake, but you don’t have to be afraid of it
That’s behind the Kraken in the Great Lake at Hogwarts.
Hogwarts Legacy is full of mysteries for you to unravel. There is not only a lot to discover in the castle itself, there are also one or two puzzles or Easter Eggs in the surrounding area. If you have spent enough time in the magical world, you are guaranteed to have passed the castle at the Great Lake.
Have you already spotted the tentacles that sometimes shoot up in the air? It’s actually a little Easter Egg from the books.
JK Rowling’s transphobia: The success of Hogwarts Legacy indirectly benefits Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who participates through existing publishing rights and the associated sale of the books. Rowling continues to be active in anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric and actively supports anti-trans policies in the UK. Unfortunately, we never get to see more than the giant tentacled arms of the creature in the game, but we still know with some certainty that it is the giant octopus in Hogwarts’ Great Lake. He already has a few appearances in the Harry Potter books, even if he’s never exactly seen here either.
At least this creature seems to be a friendly fellow. Pupils can feed him bread or even tickle his tentacles. According to a (supposed) joke by the book author, the octopus is actually the animagus figure of Godrick Gryffindor, one of the founders of Hogwarts.
Do we see the basilisk or the kraken in the Slytherin room? Some Hogwarts Legacy fans also rumored that the Kraken can even be seen from the Slytherin common room. A fan shared a short video clip of a giant creature swimming in front of one of the windows. While some believe it to be the Basilisk that dwells in the Chamber of Secrets, others argue it must be the Kraken. That would be the only way to see the giant creature under the water surface.

Either way, the Kraken remains a mystery in Hogwarts Legacy. It’s a real shame that we can’t interact with him directly. After all, it would have been a great opportunity to finally catch a glimpse of the giant creature – or just to feed and tickle him with bread for relaxation from broomstick excursions and hunting down dark wizards.
