Diablo 3 Guide: Assemble the shepherd’s crook, into the pony level – County Launebach
I
n Diablo 3 there is a hidden level that makes a name for itself with a very special design: the pony level. However, in order to be able to enter it, you first need the shepherd’s staff, an item that can be composed of several components. In our guide to the shepherd’s staff and thus to the pony level, we want to explain how and where you can get the individual parts for the staff and from where you can travel to the pony level. By the way, we have adapted our guide to Diablo 3 Patch 2.0.1.
The shepherd’s crook is required to access County Launebach.

First a few general notes: In order to be able to farm the items for the shepherd’s crook, you must have Diablo 3 (buy now €30.26 ) have at least played through the normal difficulty mode, so that all save points of the four acts are available to you – when Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls has been released, you must have played through the 5th act at least once in order to use the adventure mode for farming the shepherd’s crook items to be able to use.
The farm process for the individual parts of the shepherd’s crook can be shortened by specifically selecting save points. If you want it to be fast – and assuming you have the right amount of luck – then you should collect the items on the normal level of difficulty.
Danger: After adjusting the difficulty levels with Diablo 3 Patch 2.0.1, there is only one version of the shepherd’s crook, which grants you access to the county of Launebach in all difficulty levels. You no longer have to craft a Nightmare, Hell, or Inferno version of the Staff – so save yourself the cost if Haedrig wants to sell you a different version of the Shepherd’s Staff.
You need a total of six items to craft the shepherd’s staff: Host’s bell, the black mushroom, Leoric’s shin, the rainbow water, the gibberish gem, and the blueprint for the staff.
In the cathedral, 1st floor, you can get the mushroom with luck.

You can find the black mushroom in the first act on the first floor of the cathedral. Portet into the cathedral garden. Then enter the first level of the cathedral. If you’re lucky, you’ll find the black mushroom in one of the square rooms that looks like our screenshot. The mushrooms can be clicked and then drop a mushroom that you can collect. If you don’t find a mushroom on the level, then leave the game and continue it again so that the spawns reset.
Leoric’s shin spawns with luck in the chimney in Leoric’s Manor.

Also in the first act you will find Leoric’s shin. Ports to Leoric’s Estate from New Tristram. Then do not go down to the Caverns of Agony, but enter the manor and run to the front entrance. Two rooms lead off the entrance hall. Leoric’s shin appears – when it spawns – in the right room in the cold fireplace as “Charred Logs”. Click on the logs and the shin comes out, which of course you collect. The same applies here: if the logs are not in the chimney, then port back to New Tristram and a new game will start.
Host’s bell costs 100,000 gold pieces.

Wirt’s bell can be bought from a merchant in the second act. The little girl Krümelchen in the Hidden Store has Wirt’s Bell on sale in the “Other” sales tab. Since you need the bell to craft the staff, willy-nilly you’ll have to bite the bullet and put the money on the counter. But at least you don’t have to rely on as much luck when acquiring the bell as you do with the next building materials.
The Rainbow Water comes from the Mysterious Chest.

Now you need some staying power. Because the rainbow water depends on two lucky factors. You choose the waypoint “The Oasis of Dahlgur” in the second act. With luck, a trader who is attacked by mobs can spawn randomly in a somewhat more isolated area on the southern edge of the map. Run straight south from the waypoint. If you don’t find Zaven the Alchemist there, who is being attacked by ghosts or phantoms, you can load a new game.
If you help him out of his predicament, Zaven will open a dungeon for you, the Mysterious Cave. So far so good. However, you need more luck. Because the dungeon is no guarantee that the mysterious chest is also included – and this is exactly where the rainbow water can be found. By the way, we found the Mysterious Chest on level 1.
The gibberish gem
The gibberish gem drops from Chiltara.

Even the gibberish gem doesn’t make it easy for you. You start in the third act and port from the waypoint in the citadel of the bastion to the bridge of Korsikk. On the fields you must now find the dungeon caves of frost. On the second level, if you are lucky, a rare enemy named Chiltara can spawn, which in turn will drop the gibberish gem. As with Rainbow Water, you’ll need a good deal of luck for Chiltara to appear at all. Otherwise, as usual, it means: Get out of the game and reset the spawns via a restart.
Izual drops the plan with luck.

Last on the list is the shepherd’s crook blueprint. You can find it in the fourth act. Portet to the crystal colonnade. You must now find the silver tower where Tyrael’s former brother in arms, Izual, awaits you. And with luck, he can drop the blueprint for the shepherd’s crook. If the fallen angel has the plan with him, then pick it up, return to the blacksmith and right-click the plan, because this will teach Haedrig how to make the shepherd’s crook. If he does not have the plan with him, the game restarts.

In order to gain access to County Launebach, your character must have the staff in their inventory. Since it is bound to the account, you can of course give it to any character who should visit the pony level via the stash. Start in Act 1 and teleport to the ancient ruins. Run left out of the ruins and head south, there is a reddish shimmering chasm. There the Spirit of the Cow King appears with a quest. If you accept it, the chasm will glow in all colors of the rainbow after you have finished talking to the king. Portet to County Launebach and – congratulations – you’ve found the pony level.
In our gallery you will find more explanatory pictures, we also present you a video guide including a trip to the pony level. The video guide has not yet been adapted to the 2.0.1 changes – but they “only” affect the upgrade options for the shepherd’s staff anyway, which have been eliminated with the pre-patch for Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls.
