Kelvin used to be the hero in Sons of the Forest – but players are now saying, “Don’t trust him!”
The day after the release of Sons of the Forest, the NPC companion Kelvin was considered a celebrated hero. But dedicated master builders are no longer so enthusiastic about the worker’s eagerness to work.
I could name a dozen survival games where an NPC helper like Kelvin from Sons of the Forest would have been a godsend.
A helping hand in the hour-long grind for resources to bolster your base to military standards – before that I don’t feel safe. Kelvin hauls logs like a champion, brings endless sticks, collects berries like there’s no tomorrow.
No wonder the NPC companion is so popular. But I knew there was a catch. And if you want to fully experience the building system in Sons of the Forest, you should know the dark side of Kelvin – he obviously doesn’t like tree houses.

“Don’t trust Kelvin!”
There are now a few threads on reddit that deal with Kelvin’s dislike. Proud builders scrape tons of wood together to hoist their own base meter high. The pinnacle of construction in Sons of the Forest.
But don’t let Kelvin help you with that. Otherwise the work is quickly over:
With incredible self-confidence and without scruples, Kelvin cuts down the tree that was to support the new house of the dedicated builder “Successful-System827”. He still wanted to prevent it, but there was no cure for the NPC’s eagerness to work.
You think that was an accident? No! Kelvin is fully aware of what he did, even celebrating his demolitions, as the following video shows:
Nice to destroy a whole day’s work with a smile on your face. A thumbs up to celebrate. Don’t kid yourself, Kelvin. We still need heads for the fence…
So if you ever want to try your hand at building a tree house, don’t ever let Kelvin fetch logs again. The chance is just too big that the guy will spit on his hands and destroy your effort.
I’ve only built on the ground so far and he’s even shown his dark side to me. While I was waiting in front of the fire with low health for a cooked fish, Kelvin threw a log in my forehead and KO’d me.
Since then we’ve been playing “Catch the Log” more often – the current score is 20 to 1 for me.
