Now official: Nintendo isn’t at E3 this year either!
After a three-year break due to Corona, the big comeback of what was once the world’s largest games fair was supposed to take place this year. But after Sony and Microsoft canceled, the Japanese games group Nintendo is now also joining and will not be at E3 this year. More precisely, this means that all three major console manufacturers will not have their own booth in Los Angeles or an online press conference in 2023.
Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft cancel!
We already reported last year that there are big plans for E3 2023: After a forced break had to be taken in the last three years due to a certain pandemic, the game fair should finally return this year. They have big plans for this, among other things, the organizers hired the makers of the “Star Wars” celebration.
Of course, the most important thing at a video game fair are the video games themselves. And they have to be offered by some publisher at the booth. The problem is that fewer and fewer of them are willing to present their games in Los Angeles. As we recently reported, both Sony and Microsoft will be absent from E3 this year.
At that time there was already speculation that Nintendo would stay away from the fair. And these rumors are now confirmed: the Japanese publisher and console manufacturer confirms to IGN that it has no plans to participate in E3 2023.
Is E3 even happening this year?
In the statement, Nintendo says: “We take our engagement with each event on a case-by-case basis and are always considering different ways to engage with our fans. As this year’s E3 show didn’t fit into our plans, we made the decision not to attend . However, we have been and continue to be a strong supporter of ESA and E3.”
The last sentence in particular is exciting: On the one hand, Nintendo seems to confirm that non-participation this year is only an exception and that the organizers will continue to be supported. On the other hand, what was once the largest video game fair will not survive long if all three major console manufacturers stay away from it for too long.
Sony and the Playstation have not been active participants for several years, their presentations have always been held away from the Los Angeles Convention Center. Microsoft also hosted its own event. And Nintendo was always prominently represented with the Direct. But all three at least presented their games on the exhibition grounds. So this year it’s different.
Ubisoft, for example, has confirmed that it wants to take part in E3 if there are enough other publishers and game developers who also take part. However, it is questionable whether many others will be found. The event is actually supposed to take place from June 13th to 16th. Ultimately, however, it remains to be seen whether the E3 will take place at all this year if the interest on the part of the major publishers is so low. How do you see it: Would you be happy about events at E3 or don’t you care about the fair anyway? Feel free to write that in the comments!
