It will have a prequel series on HBO Max “Welcome to Derry”
It was recently revealed that a prequel series to It was in development, apparently taking place in the 1960s, with the director of 2017’s It and 2019’s It – Chapter Two, Andy Muschietti, returning as executive producer.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that HBO Max has officially ordered the series, which currently has the working title. Welcome to Derryand is being created by Warner Bros. Television.
“I’m excited that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted town, will continue, and I’m glad that Andy Muschietti will be overseeing the terrifying festivities, along with a group of experts that includes his talented sister, Barbara.”, wrote the author. Steven King said. “Red balloons everywhere!”
According to HBO Max’s head of original content, Sarah Aubrey, the series “will expand It’s narrative canvas and take fans deeper into the terrifying and fascinating city of Derrand”. She said: “We are delighted to continue this iconic franchise with the brilliant Andy and Barbara Muschietti, Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane.”.
