The character Batman will appear this year 84 years old. In May 1939 appeared in the US comic magazine Detective Comics the first adventure of the protector of Gotham. Since then, the Bat Man, along with Spider-Man, has been one of the undisputedly most popular superheroes of all time. However, how old Batman aka Bruce Wayne is in the stories varies depending on the version of the dark knight of the night. In 1989, Batman made an acclaimed comeback to the big screen. The blockbuster starring Michael Keaton provided the blueprint for future superhero adaptations that would eventually become the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Extended Universe, and screen adaptations like Hellboy.
Batman: Michael Keaton returns in The Flash
In a few weeks, Michael Keaton will return to cinemas as the aged Batman. The Flash should be the brilliant climax of the very inconsistently successful DCEU and initiate a comprehensive reboot under the leadership of James Gunn (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy). But apparently another movie with an aging Batman is planned.
Batman: New movie – even superheroes go into retirement
In 1992 celebrated the now legendary animated series Batman: The Animated Series her debut. In three seasons and 109 episodes, the new adventures are aimed at a younger audience. While the cinema films were very dark, the Batman animated series was characterized by a more abstract, entertaining style. The performance of Star Wars icon Mark Hamill in his speaking role as the Joker is unforgettable.
Due to the great success, Warner donated the cartoon batman an official sequel. Batman Beyond (in Germany “Batman of the Future”) was released in 1999 and had a total of three seasons. Speaking on a podcast DC insider Jeff Snider now of a planned feature film that is supposed to bring the story from Batman Beyond to movie theaters around the world.
In it we would see an aged Bruce Wayne, who has now hung up his cape and let a younger Batman go first to take the Streets of Gotham to clean. Apparently, the project is one of the few things at DC that hasn’t been canceled by James Gunn. However, whether the film will ever see the light of a cinema projector is still completely open. Batman Beyond has been in the works for a number of years and is intended to compete with Marvel’s hit animation Spider-Man: A New Universethe second part of which will soon be in cinemas.
