Octopath Traveler was released in 2019 and convinced us so much with its tactical battles, great sound and beautiful 16-bit graphics that we even gave it a PCGames Hit Award. The JRPG also scored with an exciting story, which finds a worthy continuation in the second part. With Octopath Traveler 2, things have been going on since mid-February and bring along useful innovations, such as a day and night change, which have a strong impact on the gameplay. Depending on the time, other quests and NPCs are available and the abilities of your fellow combatants also change depending on the position of the sun.
Design, combat system and sound are once again a highlight of the role-playing game, which focuses on the eight playable heroes, whose stories we experience at our own pace. Charming banter between the eight protagonists around the campfire is also part of Octopath Traveler 2 and rounds off the experience for all role-playing and pen & paper fans.
We quote from our test, in which author Ben fell in love with the game world: “And gentlemen, I could lie down in these beautiful diorama game worlds! Seriously, Ährenthal im Laubland is probably the most homely RPG village I’ve ever seen assembled from pixels and polygons.”
Since you don’t want to just put down such a nice game, installing it on a handheld is a good idea, for example on the Steamdeck, which we want to give away to one of our readers in a practical way in combination with Octopath Traveler 2.
