With the fantasy adventure Yashahime: Princess Half Demon the renowned studio Sunrise (“Gintama”) sets its anime hit Inuyasha away. Crunchyroll brought us the recently released 1st volume of the new series on Blu-ray and we’ll tell you what to expect in it.
A new demon hunter generation
After the adventures the old guard came to an end around Kagome & Co. begins around 19 years later the story of the sequel. At this point our three new heroines, Towa, Setsuna and Morohaeach 14 years old.
When the three young women meet for the first time, they not only find out that they magic beads own and therefore one mysterious connection have to each other, but they also receive the order, two powerful demons to slay. The beginning of a new adventure!
The first six episodes from “Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon”, which are included on the 1st Blu-ray volume, first take a lot of time to introduce us to the three protagonists and their strengths and weaknesses and to familiarize us with them, but also draw something different world.
To see the three become a team while becoming embroiled in a much bigger cause, is really entertaining. Their first adventures are short-lived fun that mostly shows us what Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha are capable of.
The insight into the fantasy adventure was successful and the first six episodes make you want more from the world of the anime series!
What do picture and sound offer?
The Blu-ray offers Full HD resolution (1920x1080p) with an aspect ratio of 1.77:1 (16:9). The picture is therefore razor sharp and the strong colors are also convincing and help to really bring the “Yashahime” universe to life.
Unfortunately, some inconsistencies in the drawings are noticeable and the animations only move in one direction at first neat level. On the other hand, some action scenes shine with beautiful choreographies and thanks to the high-contrast image, these come into their own.
Now a few words about the sound: You can watch the anime adventure either in the original Japanese sound with German subtitles or with German dubbing. Both audio tracks are on the Blu-ray DTS HD Master Audio 2.0 before. Default on KAZÉ/Crunchyroll releases.
The German dubbing is included well accomplished and longtime fans can look forward to the return of many regular speakers. Unfortunately is Dominik Auer (Inuyasha) no longer there. takes his part Sebastian Kluckert (Trunks in Dragon Ball Super) who does a pretty good job.
A little special praise have themselves Julia Gruber (Towa), Laura Jennie (Moroha) and Angelina Markiefka (Setsuna) that bring the heroines to life believably. Overall, the German synchro makes a positive impression, even if the screams could be a bit more powerful.
Both the picture and the sound of the first Blu-ray volume are convincing.
