Alien: Filming for new standalone movie will start soon
Good news for Alien fans: Filming on the fifth part of the sci-fi film series will start soon. Details about the cast of the strip are now known – and an old acquaintance is also back on board.
Aside from the fact that a new Alien movie is in the works that will not be a prequel or spin-off but a standalone new narrative, not much was known about Fede Alvarez’s project. But that has recently changed. As the editors of the Hollywood Reporter reported, not only the start of filming, but also the main cast for Alien 5 is certain.
Ridley Scott involved as producer
The start of the shooting under the direction of Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead) falls on March 9th, 2023 and will take place in Budapest. The screenplay is also penned by Alvarez, who co-wrote it with Rodo Sayagues (Don’t Breathe, Don’t Breathe 2, Evil Dead). The story apparently focuses on a group of young colonists who have to deal with the infamous Xenomorph in the loneliness of their space station. Details about the plot are not yet available.
20th Century Fox has cast the following cast of Alien 5:
- David Jonsson (Deep State, Rye Lane)
- Cailee Spaeny (Pacific Rim: Uprising, How It Ends)
- Archie Renaux (Voyagers, Morbius)
- Spike Fearn (The Batman, Aftersun)
- Aileen Wu (Closing Doors, Fish Tank)
Cailee Spaeny apparently stars as a character reminiscent of Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) in Alien 1-4. Ridley Scott, the original director of Alien and the series Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, will serve as executive producer on Alien 5. There is no release date or theatrical release or first footage of the film yet.
