Gaming: Nintendo Switch topped UK console sales in 2022

The Nintendo Switch was the number one console sold in the UK last year.

UK Statistics has released an insight into console sales in the UK.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, 2.4 million video game consoles were sold in 2022.

With 880,000 consoles sold, the Nintendo Switch is in first place. Compared to the previous year, however, 27.5% fewer consoles were sold.

The PlayStation 5 is second with 780,000 sales. Sony was able to ship 32.6% fewer copies to gamers compared to the previous year.

Third place goes to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Microsoft was able to sell 723,000 consoles in the series. Compared to last year, that’s 14.7% fewer consoles.

With 350 million pounds, the PS5 is in first place in terms of sales. Nintendo’s Switch turnover was just £231.7 million. Microsoft comes second here with 242.5 million.

In other stats on games sold (digital and physical), FIFA 23 sold over 2.5 million copies in the UK last year. With almost 1.7 million, it was enough for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II for second place. The role-playing game Elden Ring comes in third place with over 865,000 copies.

The sales figures for Grand Theft Auto V, on the other hand, are almost unbelievable. The ten-year-old open-world action game has been sold over 816,000 times.
