Hogwarts Legacy: Release for PS4 and Xbox One postponed again
The Harry Potter RPG Hogwarts Legacy was released on February 10, 2023 for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A version for previous generation consoles was supposed to follow in April this year, except for the Nintendo Switch, which will get a Hogwarts Legacy release on July 25, 2023. However, the development studio probably needs a little more time to get the game running on the older hardware, which is why the release date for Xbox One and Playstation 4 has now been pushed back. The developers write on Twitter:
Hogwarts Legacy isn’t coming to PS4 and Xbox One until May
“We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the response to Hogwarts Legacy from fans around the world (buy now €59.99 / €53.99 ). The team is working hard to deliver the best possible experience across all platforms and we need more time for that. Hogwarts Legacy will be released on May 5, 2023 for PS4 and Xbox One.”
At least for the Nintendo Switch version, the developers probably don’t need any additional time, which is why the release date is still July 25th. While it’s always a bit of a shame when a release is pushed back, at least players can hopefully be fairly confident that the title will then work without any problems when it’s released. In contrast to numerous other games that have been released recently, such as Wild Hearts and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Hogwarts Legacy players have not had to complain about extreme performance problems.
Another Warner Bros title, Gotham Knights, was supposed to be released for last-gen consoles as well, but those versions were scrapped just before release. It is therefore quite possible that Warner Bros will only publish their games for the current generation of consoles in the future and that Hogwarts Legacy will be the last title to appear on PS4 and Xbox One.
