The Last of Us Episode 8: Did you recognize the Joel actor from the games in his new role?
The actor who played Joel from the TloU games also finds his place in the series.
Troy Baker is the actor who portrays Joel in the Naughty Dog games The Last of Us (Part 1) and The Last of Us Part 2. Prior to the HBO series’ release, the voice actor and motion capture actor announced that he was a would play a small part in it.
But which? Like a clicker? No! In episode 8 it is finally clarified which part Baker takes over.
What happened to Joel?!
Attention, from now on there will be small spoilers for the eighth episode of The Last of Us series.
Episode 8 of the series has been on Sky and WOW since tonight. The episode is dedicated to the “Winter” chapter of the game, in which Ellie briefly struggles through on her own and has to deal with the mean and cannibal David.
It also features Troy Baker aka Joel from the games! He takes over the role of Jameswho is sort of David’s right hand:
In episode 8 of the series, Troy Baker plays the character James, a henchman of David.
David’s henchman also appears in the game, but has a much smaller role in it than in the series. You may remember: after Ellie kills the deer in the winter chapter of the game, she meets the shady David and another man who is James.
Shortly after the meeting, he rushes back to David’s settlement to get medicine for Joel. After that, we don’t get to see much of James in the game.

In the HBO show, on the other hand, James can look forward to a little more screen time. The scene described above was basically taken from the game template. In addition, we get to see additional dialogues between James and David, among other things, in which it is implied that James has doubts about the cannibal’s leadership style.
The role of James is just one example of many that shows how the series expands on the world and characters from the video games or looks at them from a different perspective. “This is a unique opportunity for me to see this world from a completely new perspective,” said Troy Baker in an interview deadline.

The HBO series on Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic hit will be broadcast exclusively on Sky in Germany and can be streamed and viewed via the Sky streaming services WOW and Sky Q.
