Pokémon GO: "New" costumes for Eevee and Pikachu for the Easter event confuse trainers

New costumed monsters have been discovered in Pokémon GO for spring and the upcoming Easter season, but they’re causing a lot of confusion for trainers right now. We have summarized for you here on MeinMMO what it is all about and which Pokémon the players want instead.

What Pokemon is it about? In addition to the normal forms of Pokémon, trainers in Pokémon GO can also occasionally encounter so-called costumed monsters. These are Pokémon that wear a special outfit, such as a hat or scarf, on the occasion of an event. Pikachu in particular likes to dress up, which is why there are now numerous different forms of the small electric mouse.

Since the costumed monsters are usually only available in the game for a short time and some of them cannot be obtained again, they are of particular interest to collectors. That makes them correspondingly rare, especially if they can also be caught as Shiny.

Now the PokeMiners, a group of dataminers, have discovered new costumed Pokémon that, judging by their appearance, are probably intended for spring and the upcoming Easter festival. But the optics confuses the coaches. We’ll show you why.

Here’s a look at some trainers’ insane Pikachu collections.

These are the new costumes for Eevee and Pikachu

As the reddit user PoGoNL reports in his current post, the PokeMiners came across a data set with new costumed Pokémon during their last search in the source code. In a graphic published by Dataminer, Eevee and Pikachu and their stages of development can be seen with a wreath of flowers.

With this, Niantic apparently wants to herald spring, which is why the flower crowns would fit perfectly with the Easter event in April. The developers have already chosen similar costumes for these events in previous years. For example, last year Togetic could be found with such a wreath in the game.

What confuses the trainers about the costumes? Anyone who has been in Pokémon GO for a while will initially be suspicious when looking at the supposedly new costumes. Because somehow the new look seems somehow familiar.

Many trainers are currently wondering, as is the Twitter user Buschin135 (via twitter.com): “Didn’t we already have these costumes?”. And yes, Pikachu and Eevee have also been available in the game with a similar wreath of flowers several times in the past. Both spawned last for the spring event 2022, around Easter, and could even be further developed accordingly.

What’s different now? However, if you take a closer look at the new graphics and compare them to the old corollas, you can notice one or the other tiny difference. The blossoms of the new costumes are much redder than those from previous years.

In addition, the green leaves in the wreath were omitted this year, so only flowers can be seen. In addition, the arrangement of the flowers has also changed slightly. So the differences are negligible.

The reddit user AnnieJack, who can hardly tell the two variants apart (via reddit.com): “I opened the app and called up the existing crowned Eevee. I was switching back and forth between apps and still couldn’t see it. […] It’s like the difference between Gengar and Shiny-Gengar, except that [Shiny-] Gengar at least has the little iridescent icon. I’ll never be able to tell these Eevee and Pikachu apart.”

Trainers are disappointed – wish for different costumes

In the comments on Twitter and reddit, the supposedly new costumes cannot score at all. This is mainly because they are not very different from the previous Eevee and Pikachu with a wreath of flowers. In addition, the ornaments are relatively small, which is why they are difficult to see in the overview. So you can read the following comments (via reddit.com):

  • Imshinypokemon: “I hate her so much. The fact that they’re different from what we had before, but not so much that you immediately recognize them as new… That’s a bad decision.”
  • krispyboiz: “I collect lucky costumes, and the Eevee line costumes are the bane of my existence. What is that? A slight twist on floral wreaths? My god, is that lame.”
  • iamnota_SHADOW: “I’m sorry, but these little ornament “costumes” are so inexpensive. I wish there were more costumes like Glaziola with a December coat.”

The trainers want this costume: Many other trainers had also hoped that there would be a completely new costume this year. With Pikachu in particular, they already have a concrete idea of what that could be: a rabbit costume. Other trainers would settle for a Pikachu with bunny ears or an Easter hat.

Twitter user TeamSableye uses a plush toy from the Pokémon Center to show what a Pikachu in an Easter costume could look like. As he writes (via twitter.com): “Since they like to use the Pokemon Center plushies as templates for costumes, they might want to pick this year’s Easter Pikachu, it’s super cute” and posts a corresponding image.

It remains to be seen whether you can still look forward to another cool costumed monster for the Easter event. Since the finds are not official data, the developers also have the option of changing them again or even deciding against a release. As soon as there is official information about this, you will definitely find out from us on MeinMMO.

How do you like the new finds? Did you also wish for a different costume? Or do you think it’s totally okay that Niantic just makes small changes to the flower wreaths? Let us know in the comments and exchange ideas with other trainers on this topic.

There is still a lot to do in Pokémon GO in the coming weeks. We’ll show you all the events in March and which ones are particularly worthwhile.
