System requirements for The Last of Us Part 1: RX 7900 XT and RTX 4080 for 4K + Ultra with 60 fps

The Last of Us Part 1 - System Requirements

from Sven Baudouin
Gamers who want to play The Last of Us Part 1 on the PC in 4K with maximum detail at 60 fps need a particularly powerful system, which must be equipped with either a Geforce RTX 4080 or a Radeon RX 7900 XT. The RDNA 3 graphics card also requires AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.2 support.

The release of The Last of Us Part 1 on the PC is accompanied by moderate overall system requirements and the remake of the original, which was previously released exclusively for the Playstation 5, is at least in Full HD (1080p) and WQHD (1440p) as well as up to high graphics settings survival horror adventures released on the Playstation 3 are rather frugal.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT + FSR 2.2 for 4K + Ultra

Things are completely different in 4K with maximum detail level in the ultra preset. While the game in Full HD with high details only requires either a Radeon RX 6600 XT or Radeon RX 5700 XT or a Geforce RTX 3060 or Geforce RTX 2070 Super with 8 GiByte graphics memory each to render 60 frames per second, the ultra Preset in the UHD resolution then raises much larger guns and requires RDNA 3 and Ada Lovelace.

The Last of Us Part 1 – System Requirements
Source: Naughty Dog

Gamers who want to enjoy the atmospherically staged post-apocalypse with the charismatic protagonists Joel and Ellie in 4K and with maximum detail level need a fast CPU, Naughty Dog calls an Intel Core i7-12600K or AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, and a current graphics card from the upper class, such as the Geforce RTX 4080 or the Radeon RX 7900 XT.

32 GB RAM and 100 GB SSD

In order to achieve 60 fps, the RDNA 3 graphics card also needs the support of AMD’s in-house upscaling technology FSR 2.2 in the quality preset. Nvidia’s AI upscaling DLSS is also supported, but not required for 60 frames per second in 4K/Ultra. For the Ultra preset, the studio also recommends 32 GiBytes of RAM and 100 GiBytes of SSD storage for The Last of Us Part 1.

Ultra wide support but no ray tracing

The comparatively high system requirements for the highest graphics settings are also surprising because the game supports ultra-wide and super-ultra-wide resolutions in 21:9 and 32:9 format, but not the performance-hungry calculation of rays using ray tracing supports.
