Pure nostalgia: In Hogwarts Legacy you can play the famous Harry Potter melody
Hogwarts Legacy honors John Williams’ score with a quest.
Unsurprisingly, Hogwarts Legacy is crammed with references to the movies and books. This also includes a bell puzzle that we have to solve in the side quest “Solved from the Bell”. The melody that sounds at the end should sound immediately familiar to all Harry Potter fans.
Bell Quest honors Harry Potter film score
That’s what it’s about: In the course of the side quest “Solved from the bell” we come to a ruin at Clagmar Castle, in which there is a carillon. There our task is to hit the right bells with the basic spell in the right order and ring them.
If we succeed, one of the most famous melodies of the Harry Potter films will sound: the beginning of the piece of music “Prologue”, which John Williams composed for the first film “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and is familiar to many people who don’t know much about the wizarding world.
This is only an Easter egg, but also a homage to the composer and his film music, which as part of the universe has enchanted people worldwide for years.
In the HarryNinetyFour video you can see the riddle and the melodic solution from minute 0:34:

This is how you solve the bell puzzle
If you want to get musical in this way in Hogwarts Legacy, here are a few key data for the side quest “Solved from the bell” (not to be confused with the bell puzzle in the bell tower):
For the quest you must first find a valuable item in the form of a musical card in Henrietta’s hideout (in the south of the map). There are some enemies and environmental puzzles waiting for you there, but once you have the map you can use it to travel further east to Castle Clagmar (fast travel point available). On the castle grounds you will find the ruins with the nine bells, which you then have to hit with the basic spell in the order that the melody is right.
The correct order of the bells: You can either watch the solution again in the video above, or follow the sequence below (counting from bottom to top, left and right separated):
- Right bell no. 1
- Left bell #3
- Left bell #4
- Right bell no. 3
- Left bell #3
- Left bell number 5
- Right bell no. 4
- Right bell no. 3
By the way, as a reward for the puzzle there is a chest with an item in it.
JK Rowling’s transphobia: The success of Hogwarts Legacy indirectly benefits Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who participates through existing publishing rights and the associated sale of the books. Rowling continues to be active in anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric and actively supports anti-trans policies in the UK. If you want to find out more about the topic, you will find a summary of the most important controversies surrounding Hogwarts Legacy here.
Hogwarts Legacy will be available on February 10th, 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The versions for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have been postponed again and will now be released on May 5, 2023. The release date for the Nintendo Switch version is still July 25, 2023. But we wouldn’t be surprised if they did it again slightly late.
