Samsung 990 Pro: The NVMe M.2 SSD is now also available with a cooler

from Oliver Jaeger
Samsung has given its 990 Pro SSD a small upgrade and equipped it with a heat sink. The Samsung NVMe SSD 990 Pro Heatsink is now commercially available in one and two terabyte capacity levels. At room temperature, the 990 Pro Heatsink is said to deliver consistently high performance while staying cooler than the original.

The powerful 990 Pro SSD from Samsung is now also available with an integrated heat sink. The tech group recently announced this. The official product name is “990 Pro Heatsink” and, thanks to the cooling support, is intended to ensure consistent performance when reading and writing over longer periods of time. In addition, with a height of 8.2 millimeters (according to the PCI-SIG-D8 standard), it can be easily installed in the Playstation 5, a desktop PC or a laptop.

Samsung promises improvements in heat control with the 990 Pro Heatsink. At a room temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, it stays cooler than a 990 Pro without a heat sink and should provide high performance over the entire period of sequential read and write processes. The temperature can still be kept at a suitable level using the Dynamic Thermal Guard technology. According to Samsung, the 990 Pro Heatsink can also be customized as desired using the Magician 7.2 software, because the SSD is equipped with a heat sink and RGB lighting.

Samsung’s 990 Pro Heatsink is advertised with sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s and 6,900 MB/s, respectively, and random read and write speeds of 1,400K and 1,550K IOPS, respectively. The TBW figures are 600 TB for the 1 TB model and 1,200 TB for the 2 TB model. Nothing has changed in the technical data compared to the cooler-less model. According to Samsung, the 990 Pro Heatsink is now available in stores, such as Amazon. If you opt for the 1 TB version, you pay 159.90 euros, and the 2 TB version costs 249.90 euros.
