WoW Classic: Mega Ban Wave and new restriction on Death Knight creation
Over the past few years, we’ve repeatedly reported that bots and similar violations of the World of Warcraft Terms of Service are a major problem on the Classic servers (for example in this article or in this one) – and that the Blizzard developers take action against accounts that don’t follow the rules on a daily basis.
A few hours ago Game Producer Aggend im official WoW forum Speak up to report recent efforts that go beyond the daily struggle: “Over the past few weeks, we’ve taken action that has removed nearly 120,000 malicious accounts from the World of Warcraft ecosystem, including Wrath of the Lich King Classic and Classic Era. This is in addition to our usual ongoing ban waves, which often include actions against tens of thousands of accounts per week.“
Fight against the death knight glut
The fact that the number of cheating accounts is so high is apparently also due to the fact that it is possible in WotLK Classic to create level 55 death knights without the old restrictions. That especially death knights like to be botted, as some members of the Classic community have noticed. Here are the current rules:
- Your first death knight per realm can be created without any restrictions.
- Additional Death Knights beyond the first require a level 55 character on the same realm.
- You can only have one death knight per realm.
At least Aggrend announced that with the next ID change they will bring back the original restrictions on death knights: “This means that you cannot create a death knight unless you already have a level 55 character on your account. We felt it was very important for the launch of Wrath of the Lich King Classic to give anyone who wanted to jump into this iconic expansion the opportunity to do so with as few obstacles as possible. […] However, now that the introductory period is over, we don’t want to allow death knights to be freely created on brand new accounts. This is an enticing opportunity for malicious actors to infiltrate the game and get started in a timely manner. exploit exploits.“
But Agrend also appeals to the WoW community: “As long as there is a demand for gold and other services that players are willing to pay real money for, these malicious actors will keep popping up. Please do not hesitate to report suspected scams such as buying and selling gold for real money, automating and promoting power leveling, or selling real money in chat. Your reports help us a lot in taking action to improve the game.“
