Diablo 4 features one of the dungeons from the beta: "If the PC version looks like this, we've got a problem"

Just before the start of the Diablo 4 beta, Blizzard released a new video. In it, the expert Bludshedd and a developer play one of the dungeons from the beta in co-op. The gameplay is not well received by fans.

What is this dungeon? The Barracks of Tor Dragan is one of over 100 dungeons from Diablo 4 and one of 4 expected dungeons that you will be able to play in the upcoming beta.

The style is based on the dungeons from previous parts. As one of the lead developers, Zaven Haroutunian explains, the developers played Diablo 1 extra to be able to implement the style and even the names from before.

Haroutunian and YouTuber Bluddshedd play together on Xbox in couch co-op, showing off Barbarian and Druid gameplay while chatting about the dungeon. You play at level 25, the maximum level in the beta.

“Why does this look so much worse than everything else?”

What the fans say: The reaction to the new video has been surprisingly negative. Both on YouTube and in several threads on Reddit, fans are complaining about how bad the gameplay looks.

The User chruiburi complains: “It looks terrible. If the PC version looks like this, we have a problem. This color nonsense is what I was hoping for, what we left behind 11 years ago.” Outrage is also great in other threads:

Why does the game look so much worse than any other video we’ve seen? Is that bad lighting in this area? Is it the cartoonish player indicators? The fact that the UI and fonts look so generic and boring while being so intrusive and obscuring everything that’s going on? The leaked videos looked so much better than this.

Some users even compared the video to Diablo 3, saying if they had been told this was gameplay from a Diablo 3 expansion, they would have believed it. The UI is even reminiscent of Torchlight or Diablo Immortal.

Does Diablo 4 really look that “bad”? An attempt at an explanation by some users is that the video has been edited or that the console-specific version simply looks like the pictures. The PC version does not have such bright colors.

In the first journalist test of 2022, Diablo 4 already looked much darker than what can be seen in the video. Also we can confirm that the earlier versions were not so colourful. It is therefore obvious that this was reworked or that the versions differ.

You can soon find out for yourself whether Blizzard has subsequently screwed on the colors or whether the consoles will have different graphics.

When can I play myself? On March 17th at 5 p.m. the Early Access Beta starts for all pre-orders. A week later, on March 24th, also at 5 p.m., everyone can test Diablo 4 in the open beta. The beta runs on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Diablo 4 even supports full crossplay and cross-progression.

The final version without restrictions will be released on June 6, 2023. Those who pre-order the more expensive versions can play 4 days beforehand.
