Ninja and Samurai: Assassin’s Creed Red reportedly has two main characters
In AC Codename Red we may not only play a ninja, but also a samurai.
The release of Assassin’s Creed Codename Red is still a long way off. It’s not even known what the official title will be. All we know from a teaser trailer is that it’s set in medieval Japan.
At that time there were mainly samurai and ninjas who served as fighting troops. A new rumor has it that we may be able to play both in Codename Red.

How Insiders Gaming wants to know, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red is currently in a good state of development. The title is said to offer two playable characters, which the team has now learned more about thanks to anonymous sources.
So the two characters are said to be a samurai and a ninja. According to the teaser, we could be given a choice between a female samurai and a male ninja. The ninja is said to be a refugee from Africa who may be related to the Brotherhood.
This could result in two playstyles. With the samurai we could look for open combat, whereas with the ninja we have to assassinate enemies from ambush and then hide their corpses.

The French developer and publisher has been accused of a toxic corporate culture since July 2020. These include far-reaching sexism problems, misogyny and discrimination, which are said to be deeply rooted in the company. Although Ubisoft has already drawn conclusions, for example by exchanging management staff and openly commenting on the allegations, many employees feel that these measures are not sufficient within the company.

It remains unclear whether we can play both characters in one playthrough. One possibility would be that, like in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, players would have to decide on a gender and their playstyle at the beginning.

Alternatively, it could be that both characters can be played like in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Here, as we know, we switch back and forth between Jacob and Evie Frye over the course of the story. Since both characters will likely offer different playstyles in Red, it would definitely be a shame to only be able to play one of the two characters in one run.
The choice could not only differ the style of play, but also the story. It’s unclear if the ninja and the samurai are on the same side. So we’ll have to wait until Ubisoft reveals more details about the title.
When is Codename Red coming out? Ubisoft has not yet commented on a possible release period. But according to our estimates, the title should appear in 2024 at the earliest.
