Diablo 2: Resurrected suffers from family server issues

Activision Blizzard is currently facing ongoing serious accusations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. For more information, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject.
Another release for an online game, another release with server issues from day one. These days it’s rare for a game with online connectivity to launch without server issues, and unfortunately for Paladins, Necromancers, Barbarians, and other players around the world, Diablo 2: Resurrected is not without its problems.
Players report server issues that prevent them from even playing the game, and these same issues prevent players from viewing existing characters or creating new ones as well. Earlier today, Blizzard announced that it was taking the game offline for unscheduled maintenance in an attempt to fix the issues.
The offline game must remain available to all players who have already authenticated.

However, it didn’t seem to work, as many on the game’s Subreddit and on Twitter are still experiencing the issues. At Diablo 2: Resurrected subreddit, the main page reveals several posts of a screen that says: “There was a problem communicating with the game servers”, and that those players should “verify that [they] are connected to the Internet and try again. ”
On Twitter, players are reporting similar things, theorizing that the new Battle.net is worse than the old Battle.net.
Very funny @Devil you have server problems. You thought we were supposed to use the new age battlenet, but maybe the ancient battlenet was more stable? @Blizzard_Ent

Blizzard tweeted again about an hour after unscheduled maintenance, “continues to work on issues affecting character and game creation.” A quick scrolling through the responses to that tweet shows the frustration of players who can’t get in.

after 10:00 maintenance, I created a game very well, then I left it to join another one and since then my character / account has been locked and I cannot play. Hoping for a resolution soon!

Pretty sad when my 37 year old Commodore 64 performs better than Blizzard 2021 servers.

For what it’s worth, Blizzard has acknowledged the issue, stating that it is actively working on it. However, with the game available today, it’s obviously not great that players who bought this new game at launch can’t even play it as expected.
However, the server issues that Diablo 2: Resurrected players face today are not that uncommon in all games. Square Enix Outriders suffered a major online disruption within days of their launch that hampered what could have been a successful launch. No Man’s Sky Players on PC Reported Server Issues also on launch day, so while these issues are not good to deal with, they are unfortunately not rare.
While you wait for the Diablo 2: Resurrected server issues to be fixed, watch this video showing 12 minutes of Assassin play and then check out these 14 minutes of Necromancer play. Read about how Diablo 2: Resurrected cannot have ultra-wide screen support because it breaks the original game after.
