Sable: the inspiration behind the game and how to get started

How it all started…

Saber It’s a game that we started as a 2-person study of my parents’ shed. Since then, the team has grown and fluctuated over time and we have brought in collaborators to support us in creating the game, without whom the game would not exist. It has been a long journey, and we are grateful that people joined us.

Throughout the game’s development, we’ve been inspired by all kinds of art and media, from artists like Moebius, Studio Ghibli animation, and architects like Carlo Scarpa, the Metabolists, and Archigram. We’ve tried to apply this inspiration in a way that hopefully evokes a unique and captivating world for you to explore.

There is no wrong way.

Saber is a game about exploration, a game in which we encourage you to play without a preconceived plan or direction, but to let the path of the dunes guide your journey smoothly. If you see something interesting, deviate from your original path. If you think you’ve found something “sooner than you’re supposed to,” we encourage you. Sometimes it can be a slow-paced game, designed to allow you to take a moment to immerse yourself in the soundscape created by Japanese Breakfast and Martin Kvale and the general atmosphere of the different places you visit.

More expensive

The main goal is to collect masks on their slip, a rite of passage that everyone takes as they mature into adulthood. There are several places where you can meet a variety of characters that can help you gather masks, it is worth taking your time to talk to them and discover their stories as well.

Simon

You’ll travel with a fellow traveler, Simoon, a hovercraft that his clan gifted to Sable during his gliding. Simoon will transport you around the world, but as a player you can also customize how the bike looks, feels and sounds to your liking, unlocking new parts and color palettes on your adventure.
