D & D’s Witchlight campaign has a terrifying spider raising money for charity

Do it half The wild beyond the witches’ light, the latest Dungeons & Dragons campaign book, and you’ll find something unusual. It’s a peaceful scene with a giant spider sitting under a dew-speckled cobweb, but it’s a work of art that doesn’t really contribute to the book’s narrative. Instead, there is a call for the reader to head over to an online store and buy another book entirely. Is named Domains of delight, and is a 24-page supplement on how to create a scenario for your own home game.

So why is this morsel not included in Witch? I reached out to lead designer Christopher Perkins for more information.

“When we were working on Domains of delight part [of The Wild Beyond the Witchlight] We weren’t necessarily sure where it would eventually land, ”Perkins said. “It could have been in the book. It could have been a separate thing. Some of that was based on how the adventure flowed. “

Ultimately, Perkins said he made the call to split Domains of delight to be your own product. In it, players are guided through the process of creating their own region in Feywild, and a unique Archfey to be their lord. It is a process very similar to the system used in Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft, which had a section titled Domains of Dread.

“Ultimately, it was my call to keep it separate from the rest of the adventure,” Perkins said, “simply because such a large section of the adventure has nothing to do with the narrative of The wild beyond the witches’ light it seemed a little strange. “

In addition to 24 pages of new instructions on how to create your own world, Domains of delight also contains all the brochures found in The wild beyond the witches’ light. That includes several cards to keep track of your many non-player characters and a special worksheet to keep track of the campaign as a whole. So if you have a home printer, it’s actually a handy little way to get copies of everything you need without visiting the copy shop. All proceeds from the sale of the accessory will benefit. Extra life, a game-based charity that provides funding for children’s hospitals in the United States and Canada.

Domains of delight is available from the Dungeon Master’s Guild, a site created by Wizards of the Coast in association with One Bookshelf, the same company that manages DriveThruRPG. Traditionally, it has been a place for fans to post their own community-generated content, and for Wizards and its other partners to host content for company-sanctioned organized games. Perkins says this is the first time a physical book has specifically directed readers there for additional material.

This isn’t the first time Wizards has made what would otherwise be content found in one of their books available from the Dungeon Master’s Guild. In 2017, it also sold The Tortle Package, another accessory whose sales benefited Extra Life. It is the only place where you can currently find the turtle player race, basically a humanoid turtle.

Tortles will be available in a printed book from 2022 when Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse goes on sale. That book, revealed over the weekend of Youtube, will be part of a 3-volume “rule expansion gift set” and then as a standalone product. Wizards says Monsters of the multiverse will include more than 250 monster stat blocks and 30 playable races, and will include content drawn from The Tortle package, Volo Monster Guide, and Mordenkainen’s Tome of Enemies.

So are there other online-only deals in the works for D&D?

“I can’t talk about future plans, of course,” Perkins said with a laugh. “All I can say is maybe. I am hoping that The wild beyond the witches’ light makes Feywild as accessible and fun to explore as Ravenloft and Shadowfell have traditionally been. […] We will see how people react to this adventure. And we will see how people react Domains of delight, and then we will respond accordingly. “
