Featured Games: Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Series

For: High recognition factor; Unlike existing characters, potential for a unique style; Could be part of a couple of Resident Evil echo fighters, with Claire maybe ?; Fabulous hair.

Against: With guns, knives, blood, and creeping zombie meat, Leon and the Resident Evil series isn’t exactly kid-friendly (except for the presidential daughters). Counterpoint: the Metal Gear Solid The series has featured explosives based on genitalia and Snake still in Smash.

Featured Games: Viewtiful joe, Viewtiful Joe 2

For: Crazy style; He is already an accomplished fighter who would be a perfect fit; Sexy Silvia would be a great shadow fighter.

Against: It has been a long time since he starred in a game (not necessarily a problem, children need education!).

Final strike: Joe slows down time and proceeds to hit one hit after another until time resumes and the opponent bounces off the screen.

Amaterasu

Featured Games: Okami, Okamiden

For: Incredible fighting possibilities with Celestial Brush; A lot of combat experience; The sumi-e art style would be a unique addition (imagine the setting).

Against: … no, I can’t think of anything.

Final strike: Chibiterasu jumps with the Celestial Brush and plants bombs that launch the opponent into the stratosphere.

Ramírez and Jonesy (Fortnite)

Notable games: Fortnite

For: Incredibly recognizable to millions of people; The cartoon style would fit well; Lots of eco hunting masks to choose from; Fortnite = yet so hot right now, it could be forever at this rate.

Against: There is some? Not really, even though he yells a lot.

Final strike: After thanking bus driver three or four thousand times, he finally shows his appreciation for his appreciation by dropping his vehicle from the sky directly on his opponent.

Goku

Featured Games: Dragon Ball FighterZ, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and many, many more

Against: There is some? Not really, unless you count yelling a lot as negative.

Final strike: He leaps into the clouds while generating a projectile of unfathomable force, screaming very loudly as he annihilates absolutely everything in his path.

The Fighter (Rhythm Heaven)

Featured Games: Rhythm Heaven Megamix, Rhythm Heaven Series

For: A great repertoire of murderous movements; It looks great on camera; It would make an excellent addition to the Smash soundtrack vault; Wubba dubba dub, That’s right?

Against: Sometimes our desire for a fighter is based solely on who we want to see in amiibo form: this May be one of those moments.

Final strike: Choose your option! Maybe the paparazzi will crowd into the frame and you “pose for the fans,” blasting everyone off the stage with your mighty pecs. Alternatively, The choir boys arrive and destroy your opponent using their ultrasonic voices.

Mallo

Featured Games: Pushmo / Pullblox, Crashmo / Fallblox

For: It could create interesting mechanics for a scenario full of blocks. We haven’t seen Mallo on Switch … yet.

Against: A lesser known cute character would certainly invoke the ire of fans in certain circles.

Final strike: A wall of blocks appears behind your opponent and Mallo presses a button. While on top of the blocks, everyone else falls off the stage onto the screen, landing with a splat, and sliding down.

Downwell’s friend

Featured Games: Downwell

For: Lots of potential in a Downwell stage; Gunboots offer great offensive moves; He would make an unexpected but brilliant team with Bayonetta; It would go down … well.

Against: A bit of a note?

Final strike: Guy Downwell takes off his boots and puts them on his opponent. Having no experience with that type of footwear, they are expelled from the stage towards their doom.

Main boss

Featured Games: Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo series

For: Iconic game character; Evolved Combat Trained.

Against: We’ve already had hugely surprising Microsoft crossovers with BK and Steve, although Master Chief is very different.

Final strike: A Warthog accelerates onto the stage, the Boss jumps while still moving and pounces on the opponent to end the fight.

Dante

Featured Games: The devil can cry, Devil May Cry series

For: DMC games have been relaunching on Switch for a while now; A natural fit for Smash.

Against: Yet another swordsman; Perhaps too similar to existing fighters?

Final strike: “Let’s rock it baby!” Then Virgil, Trish, Lady, and the rest dive in. There is an explosive and elegant violence.

Tetrominos

Featured Games: Seriously?

For: A novel addition; Massively iconic; We want a T-spin to become an offensive move.

Against: Tetrominos are not blessed with a lot of personality.

Final strike: TO Tetris 99-inspired pouring lines over your opponents, crushing them mercilessly.

Wonderful 101

Featured Games: Wonderful 101

For: A unique addition with a lot of character and potential; It would fit nicely with a long-rumored Switch port.

Against: A great technical challenge to implement so many fighters in a single ‘character’.

Final strike: All 101 transforms to form the United Hand and clear the stage.
