Random: Uh-Oh, the ‘Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack – Trailer Summary’ is generating a lot of dislikes

[ad_1]

It’s not often that you see a video on Nintendo’s main YouTube channel that doesn’t perform well in terms of ‘Like’ compared to ‘Dislike’, but every now and then you post something that doesn’t go down as well between subscribers and viewers in general.

The latest video that is fighting to win over the masses is the Switch Online general preview for the new ‘Expansion Pack’ add-on (see above). Although it has generated more than 700,000 visits at the time of writing this article, it seems to have annoyed a lot of people, with more than 40,000 “dislikes” and only 14,000 “likes.”

Comments range from how Nintendo is “misreading the room” in reference to the “high price” and even joking about how the name should be changed to “expensive package”. There are already calls from other Nintendo fans on social media not to buy the new (and more expensive) tier, in hopes that the video game giant will reconsider:

@ electrotriple11 – “Did you know that if you’re not happy with the price of something, and enough people don’t buy that thing, THEY ** WILL BE FORCED TO LOWER THE PRICE SO PEOPLE WILL BUY IT, SO DON’T BUY THE EXPANSION PACKAGE”

We conducted our own survey here at Nintendo Life and an overwhelming majority of readers told us it was a “little too high” and even an “outright scam.” Saying this, more than 40% of the participants were willing to change their mind about the new level, depending on future updates. Of course there are others They are willing to give it a try, and some even suggest that Nintendo will likely beef up the service with additional incentives, such as more game libraries and DLC content over time.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen a Nintendo video on YouTube that struggles to be attractive. Metroid Prime: Federation Force generated over 90,000 dislikes in less than a day, as one Nintendo fan previously noted:

“The reveal of Metroid Prime: Federation Force, which was about five years ago, is the video that I like the least on Nintendo’s YouTube channel, with more than 90 thousand disliked.”

And more recently, the title of free micro-transactions Pokémon Unite for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices it generated more than 150 thousand dislikes in less than a day. Oh!

Although Nintendo has not explained why the new level of the NSO service is the price it is, well-known leaker Emily Rogers has suggested that it could have to do with the “license costs” of certain game libraries, such as Mega Drive / Genesis and games from companies like Sega and Capcom.

When the new expansion pack launches on October 25/26, it will be available for the following prices. Note: there will also be a “prorated discount”, which you can read more about in our pricing post.

  • 12 months single user – $ 49.99 / € 39.99 / £ 34.99
  • 12-month family pass (up to 8 users) – $ 79.99 USD / € 69.99 / £ 59.99

So how do you feel about the Switch Online ‘Expansion Pack’ at this stage? What was your own reaction to the video above? Do you think Nintendo needs to reconsider the price of this new top tier? Leave your thoughts below.
