Critical role campaign 3: meet the characters

After his short break for the Unlimited Exandria The eight-part series, Critical Role Campaign Three, marks the return of the largest and most extensive campaigns the channel is known for. Matt Mercer (Overwatch, American Dad!) reprises his role as Dungeon Master after his brief stint as Dariax Zaveon and brings his elegant world-building and intricate storytelling back to the table. With only one episode in the books, things are still getting started. So while we may not know what the main thrust of the story is, we certainly have a bunch of fun characters.

Campaign Three takes place in a region known as Marquet, a beautiful and varied continent made up of scorching deserts, tropical jungles, and twisted mountain ranges. Marquet brings us one of the most interesting places in the history of Critical Role: the bustling city of Khrushche, where our story begins, described by Mercer as “five tower-shaped mountains reaching for the skies… a singular city connected by bridges and cables. “It is a truly different metropolis that provides a dynamic backdrop to this campaign.

As for the party, well, they are made up of old and new faces. Some of the Exandria Unlimited (ExU) The return of the cast, in a search for Air Ashari frontman Keyleth, who featured heavily in the campaign, while our new cast members bring their own problems to the table. Here’s a full breakdown of the party.

Fearne Calloway

Ashley Johnson (The last of us) reprises her role as Fearne Calloway, a satyr druid who was a delight during her time at ExU. Appearing quite shy and shy underneath her cool exterior, Fearne thrives in chaotic times and is incredibly protective of her allies. She travels with a spirit, Little Mister, who takes the guise of a little monkey and spent much of ExU tormenting Dariax.

Orym

Another Critical Role regular coming from ExU is Liam O’Brien (Star wars rebels, League of Legends). He plays Orym, a middleweight fighter who brings balance to the group, often positioning himself as the voice of reason when the group heads towards chaos with reckless abandon. Orym may not be the life and life of the party, but he’s definitely the one making sure he still has life and soul to hold onto.

Dorian Storm

The enigmatic bard Dorian Storm joins the third Critical Role campaign as a guest star, played by Robbie Daymond (Final Fantasy 15). Given how early he has been introduced, there is speculation about whether or not he will become part of the team full time. One of the friendliest members of the group, he’s the one you’ll find supporting as players delve deeper and deeper into the mysteries of Marquet.

Sir Bertrand Bell

The ending of our returning characters is Sir Bertrand Bell, played by Travis Willingham (Batman: Bad Blood, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood). The actor is known for making great creations and Bell is no exception. First featured on Vox Machina one-shot, The search for GrogBell is now 30 years older and remains as selfish as ever.

While the other players are level three, Bell was a level 18 fighter in the previous mission. It has been agreed that 30 years have set him back somewhat and now he is a level five fighter, although he will take advantage when shooting on initiative.

Imogen Temult

The first character we saw during the new campaign and our first new character, Imogen Temult played by Laura Bailey (Gears 5, The Last of Us: Part 2), is a human sorcerer. Unsure of the nature of her magic, she is on a quest to find out where it really comes from and what exactly it can do. Expect many unique abilities and a constantly discovered backstory as we discover more about her in the coming weeks.

Laudna

A multi-class warlock / sorcerer played by Marisha Ray (Far cry 5), we are not exactly sure what Laudna’s racial origin is. While she may look like something out of a horror movie, with her pale skin and jet-black hair, Laudna is quite laid-back and friendly. It’s safe to say there’s more to Laudna than meets the eye and we’re excited to see how the world reacts to her. Will they be terrified or will they see that they can’t judge a book by its cover?

Aston greymoore

Ashton Greymore, a barbarian with a hole in his head, is played by Taliesin Jaffe (Tales of Arise, Street fighter 4). He has left the spring of his life behind. We see him get out of bed and look for beer, which tells you everything you need to know about his past. Friend of a little automaton named Fresh Cut Grass, Ashton is a homebrew version of the iconic barbarian character class, so we’ll be treated to many abilities that aren’t in the rulebook as more episodes unfold.

Fresh cut grass

An automaton that thinks it has no soul, Fresh Cut Grass, or FCG, is without a doubt the most unique of the bunch. It is interpreted by Sam Riegel (Star Wars: The Bad Lot). Like WALL-E and getting by with scraps of metal for food, FCG brings a cheerful and helpful attitude to any situation. He and Ashton are looking for clues about FCG’s previous party that has gone missing under mysterious circumstances.

When to watch

You can watch the third critical role campaign every Thursday at 9pm ET on Twitch, with episodes that are published in Youtube Monday and how podcast the following Thursday. There will be three main episodes each month, plus a one-time bonus session with something completely different.
