Mystique from X-Men has reunited with his wife from the Marvel universe

Throughout Marvel’s Krakoan era, there has been a Chekhov’s weapon on the mutant mantelpiece in the form of Mystique and his late wife Destiny. The secret clique he leads believes all their plans will be ruined if Destiny is resurrected, and Mystique has come close to burning it all down if his wife is not resurrected.

Hell, a kind of parting lap for writer Jonathan Hickman, an architect of the Krakoan era, pulled that double-barreled shotgun out of the wall last month, revealing that Mystique had somehow secretly brought his wife back to life. .

This week, we got to see it on fire: Marvel’s terrifying shapeshifter and his oracular wife are together again for the first time since 1989.

What else is happening on the pages of our favorite comics? We will tell you. Welcome to Monday Funnies, Polygon’s weekly list of books our comic book publisher enjoyed this past week. It’s part of the Superhero Lives Society pages, part of reading tips, part of “look at this cool art.” There may be some spoilers. There may not be enough context. But there will be great comics. (And if you missed the latest edition, read this.)

Unlike 1989, when an editorial ban on queer relationships kept writer Chris Claremont only hinting at Mystique and Destiny’s relationship rather than clearly stating it, Mystique and Destiny’s reunion in 2021 is gay as hell. For my part, I welcome our new mutant power gay couple.

And I mean the powerful couple, as Mystique not only resurrected his wife into a fiery young body as a gift, but also made her a politician for a seat on the Krakoa ruling council. Now that it is a relationship goal.

From old gays to new gays: Slaughter house # 1 is putting on a queer boarding school drama “and they were roommates” along with the drama of “kids training to be secret society monster hunters and maybe the cute boy turns into a monster.” Boom Studios is showing a lot of faith in the Something is killing the children audience with this spin-off comic, but again, that audience is large enough to have caught the attention of Netflix.

Black Widow, White Widow, Hawkeye, Winter Soldier and more arrive at the Golden Gate Gala in Haute Couture in Black Widow # 12 (2021).

When I first saw this panel, I thought Black widow # 12 was a long overdue Hellfire Gala bonding comic, but no, it’s Black Widow, Yelena Belova, Hawkeye, and Winter Soldier, all attending a perfectly normal human party, which is clearly supposed to be the Met. -Gala. All I can say is that I am absolutely in favor of every superhero book that goes to a fake version of the Met Gala, especially if it is the cover of an elaborate heist, as it is here.

Wonder Woman battles a young woman with a ray gun through the skies of a city. Figures are depicted with flowing skirts and beautifully detailed hair, and only in the colors black, white, and gold in Wonder Woman: Black & Gold # 5 (2021).

Anthology books can be hit or miss, but there were some real hits on this week’s. Wonder Woman: Black and Gold, like this story by Trung Le Nguyen (from the highly praised The magic fish) that looks and reads absolutely gorgeous.

Kate Pryde fires her blaster into a pool of melting ice to create oxygen within an ice structure, while Bishop and Sebastian Shaw begin beating each other to accumulate kinetic energy using their absorption powers in Marauders # 25 (2021).

This week in Marauders, several members of the team are pushed out of an airlock and survive and recover their spaceship by combining all their powers and mutant elements to lock themselves in an ice ball, creating oxygen and heat within the ice ball, and then creating a propulsion method for the ice ball.

Namely, Bishop and Sebastian Stan, who have the ability to absorb kinetic energy to use later, beat each other until they turned into a damn jet engine for the ice ball. This kind of brilliant mutant teamwork, created through clever writing, is always a joy to read.
