WoW Dragonflight: New Priest Talent Tree Includes Interesting Ability (2)

from Sarah Petzold
The WoW developers have presented the next new talent tree for the upcoming Dragonflight expansion. This time the priest is the center of attention. Brand new is a talent called “Idol of Y’Shaarj” whose effect changes depending on the emotional state of your target.

Dragonflight makes everything new – at least when it comes to the talents in World of Warcraft. Because with the next expansion we’re celebrating the return to the old talent trees, which should work a little differently than before Mists of Pandaria. The developers have already shown how exactly we are allowed to specialize our characters in Dragonflight in previews of the talents of druids and death knights. Now follows the first draft of the talent tree for priests – and that brings with it a particularly interesting entry.

Old friends and some newcomers

Like the developers in one explain detailed blue post, they remain true to the premise of allowing their players to reflect themselves in their talent choices with the Priest talent tree in Dragonflight. Specifically, the team writes:

[…] we look forward to bringing in some old friends and a few new tricks, and presenting them in the form of delightful choices. The core talent tree includes new opportunities previously unavailable for some specializations, such as Shadow Spirit, Shadowflame Prism, Sacred Nova, Sun Priestess Twins, and more. Speaking of specializations, we’ve shuffled a few old and new spells that aim to reward and emphasize the choices you make as you level up.

Accordingly, fans can look forward to a colorful potpourri of popular skills, but also a few new additions.

Idol worship for shadow priests

A particularly interesting addition to the Shadow Priest talent tree is Idol of Y’Shaarj. The effects of this talent are based on what emotional state your target is in when your Shadow Spirit is active. The developers have explained how this works in practice in a separate blue post. The current status looks like this:

  • Target has more than 80 percent health = state “Pride”
    • You and your Shadow Spirit deal more damage while Shadow Spirit is active.
  • Target is angry = state “anger”
    • Removes the Rage effect and increases your haste while Shadow Spirit is active.
  • Target is stunned = state “despair”
    • You generate Insanity while Shadow Spirit is active.
  • Target affected by Fear Effect = Fear Condition
    • You and your Shadow Spirit deal more damage without breaking the Fear effect while Shadow Spirit is active.
  • Target is not affected by any of the above effects = “Violence” condition
    • Shadow Spirit’s duration is increased.
