Battlefield 2042: “Balanced” for the first time after Season 1 on Steam

Also because of Battlefield 2042? EA boss gets 20 million less annual salary

On June 9th, Battlefield 2042 started its first season. Since its release in November last year, the multiplayer shooter has had to deal with bad Steam reviews – now EA’s problem child has received balanced user reviews for the first time. However, only for the recently posted reviews.

Among other things, the new “Contact” map and the capture of a contested military base should bring about a turning point in Battlefield 2042. But the content of the first season, which started on June 9th, has so far had little effect: EA’s first-person shooter reached the early July recently posted user reviews “Balanced” for the first time with 40 percent approval. However, this result was based on just over 4,000 ratings – the bottom line is that Battlefield 2042 is currently in the red “Mostly negative” (28 percent agreement). Overall, the futuristic war game has now been rated more than 108,000 times.

The number of players is also hardly recovering

Publisher EA also seems to be failing in its mission to attract new players to Battlefield 2042 and to get inactive players to return. While the open beta recorded a gain of 7.72 percent for the first season, it was only during the last 30 days 4.26 percent more players than in the previous month. In total, just 6,261 players were active in Battlefield 2042 when we checked this Sunday morning; during the last 24 hours the player count was at most 8,141 active recreational soldiers.

At the start of the first season, entitled “Zero Hour”, EA had quoted senior producer Ryan McArthur and Battlefield 2042 producers Nika Bender and Alexia Christofi in the interview chairs. The developers are impressed with their insight “into the work […]which is behind this new update”, apparently not left behind. A long time ago, EA had stated that neither Battlefield 2042 nor wanting to “drop” the Battlefield brand as a whole. It remains to be seen whether the publisher will be able to keep his word regarding the 2042 edition.
