The newly founded Japanese studio Dragami Games celebrated the tenth anniversary of Lollipop Chainsaw (in review, rating: 8.0) announced that they are developing a remake of the original that was released on PS3 and Xbox 360 at the time. It is scheduled to be released next year, but it is not yet known for which platforms.

In this comedy horror action title you play as cheerleader turned zombie slayer Juliet who uses a chainsaw to fight her zombified classmates in a California high school. With her is her friend Nick, who has just been beheaded and whose head has now found a permanent place on Juliet’s belt. The idea behind it comes from Suda 51who apparently will not be involved in the remake.

Dragami Games now owns the publishing rights for many existing Kadokawa games and has taken over around 30 employees from the development department. founder Yoshimi Yasuda commented on the announcement as follows:

We, the original developers of Lollipop Chainsaw, consider the game very valuable to us and wanted players on current consoles to have access to it as well. So we acquired the intellectual property of Lollipop Chainsaw from Kadokawa Games and decided to develop a remake. We’ve already been in touch with Warner Bros. about the development and they’re supporting us in this endeavor.

Both some of the former and new developers are said to be working on the remake. However, the soundtrack of the original version, which consisted of 16 licensed songs, will no longer be included, but completely new music awaits you. In addition, one would like to dare a “more realistic approach to the graphics” due to the better console hardware now available.
