Fire TV Cube: Amazon is apparently working on the third generation

from Sarah Petzold
According to a recent leak, Amazon wants to launch a new Fire TV Cube soon. This comes from data from an update for the Fire TV software, which, however, contains hardly any details about the third-generation model.

The current, second generation of Amazon’s Fire TV is now getting a bit old: the models came onto the market in 2019. It’s about time for a new edition – and it won’t be long in coming. According to a recent leak, Amazon is already working on a new third-generation Fire TV Cube.

Third generation Fire TV Cube codenamed Gazelle

The data miners from “AFTVnews” have discovered a reference to a new Fire TV Cube generation in current software updates for Amazon Fire TV. Amazon itself designates the individual generations of Fire TV in the files with AFTA (first generation) and AFTR (second generation). In addition to the two Fire TV Cubes, a third model called AFTGAZL appears.

The editors of AFTVnews believe that this is a third-generation Fire TV Cube. The dataminer responsible concludes this primarily from the fact that Amazon is including a total of three different Fire TV Cube models in the software update – one more model than there are currently generations on the market.

In addition, the data miner discovered a jpg file on the Amazon server with the title “Gazelle.jpg” – for him a second clear indication of a new Fire TV Cube generation that goes by the code name Gazelle. However, the files do not yet reveal any information about the specifications of the new model. The assumption is that Amazon is upgrading to Wi-Fi 6 and improving the CPU or GPU. Exact details will probably only be found out when Amazon officially presents the new Fire TV Cube.
