Ashes of Creation: August 2022 Dev Update with new map of the game world
The most recent developer update for Ashes of Creation included the new map of the game world Verra. In addition, Creative Director Steven Sharif explained what has changed in the node and minion points and what has changed for the caravan system.
On Friday, August 26, 2022, the new Ashes of Creation developer update took place with Creative Director Steven Sharif and Community Marketing Lead Margaret Krohn. In just over 100 minutes, there was a new map of Verra to see, but also updates on nodes and vassal points, changes to the caravan system, and the revelation of the Vaelune.
Findings from the August update
Below we summarize the most important findings from the August update for Ashes of Creationen:
- This year alone there were 40 newcomers to the team.
- Integrating so many newcomers into the team is never easy. So it’s all the nicer that we were able to successfully complete very important milestones recently.
- There were updates for the desert and forest biomes again to offer more variety and details within the biomes.
- When designing an MMO world, it is important that the proportions and widths are right. But you only notice whether this is the case when you move through the world. In the meantime it was clear that the first plan for the game world had to be adjusted in order for the goals for the game world to be achieved. The new map of the world therefore now looks like this:

- Not only the landmasses will be relevant for the gameplay, but also the seas. There will be PvP, dangerous monsters, treasure hunts and more.
- The number of nodes has been reduced from 103 to 85. The reduction makes the remaining nodes feel more important.
- The vassal points are now rebuilt: There can be a maximum of five metropolises in the game world with a level 6 node. The point then has two level 5 nodes associated with it, which in turn are connected to level 4 and level 3 points, and so on. If a Tier 5 node is down due to a siege, all lower tier nodes connected to the node are also affected by the outage.
- You can define guidelines for your nodes through elections among the citizens. Some of these policies require citizens within the node to reach a certain level of satisfaction. Nodes can have multiple policy slots. Policies give you special bonuses such as crafting, reputation gain, and more.
- In the character art section, the Vaelune were shown for the first time, a humanoid race that brings an Egyptian touch and is said to be descended from Djinns (at minute 42:00).
