Netflix: Basic subscription with advertising is on strike on Chromecast, Apple TV and more

On November 3rd, the Netflix streaming service officially introduced its new subscription model: For 4.99 euros per month, customers can enjoy the usual content with a few restrictions, but will see four to five minutes of advertising per hour.
As it turned out shortly after the start of the advertising subscription, not all customers can take advantage of the cheaper Netflix subscription: As the company reports on the associated FAQ website for the advertising-financed offer, among other things, owners of an Apple TV cannot access the Access model with advertising. This applies to all generations of Apple’s streaming box.
Users of a Google Chromecast or Chromecast Ultra also look in the tube – the Chromecast with Google TV, on the other hand, is supported. Sony’s Playstation 3 and the native Windows app are also not on board. After all, the usual browsers Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera and Safari are supported.
For Android smartphones and tablets, it also applies that they are equipped with at least the operating system version 7 or higher. For iOS devices, on the other hand, a much more up-to-date version is required: the iPhone or iPad must be able to show at least iOS 15. The company has not yet explained why Netflix has to limit the number of devices compatible with the advertising subscription.
However, Netflix is not the only streaming provider that has recently started using a subscription model with advertisements. Amazon Prime has launched Freevee, a free service loosely based on Prime Video, while a promotional subscription for Disney+ is currently in the works.
