Radeon RX 7900: Ambient temperature sensor in the reference design
The Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX will have an ambient temperature sensor in the reference design in order to be able to switch off the fans under suitable conditions and thus reduce noise emissions.
The reference design of the Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX has an ambient temperature sensor built into the reference design. This was confirmed by Gamers Nexus in its analysis. The sensor is hidden behind one of the fans and, you guessed it, is supposed to measure the ambient temperature inside the case. Based on this, it is decided whether the RDNA 3 cards will stop the fans for lower noise emissions. If the GPU is not under load and the temperatures are right, operation is also possible with the fans stopped.
At the moment it is assumed that the data from the sensor will be readable. At least via AMD’s official software, but probably also via third-party tools. This is because there is also a certain transparency as to why and what the current status of the fan is. What happens with the custom designs at the end is another topic, since AMD’s partners can use their own designs here. For standing fans, however, it is also advisable to measure the ambient temperature so as not to fall into the trap in which EVGA once got stuck with the Geforce RTX 1000.
Azor to RDNA 3 and FSR 3: Radeon RX 7900 XTX competition to the RTX 4080
The two new cards will be available for Christmas 2022 and will officially be released on December 13th. MSRPs are $999 for the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and $899 for the Radeon RX 7900 XT, according to AMD. We had explained most of the technical data extensively in the article on the launch. We also made an initial assessment of the performance and detailed description of the specifications. Depending on the discipline, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX can probably come close to the Radeon RTX 4090; both models should buzz around the Geforce RTX 4080 more regularly. As far as ray tracing is concerned, RDNA 3 makes a significant leap forward, but Nvidia retains the upper hand.
