After Sims 5 leak: why you should be careful with the pictures
The first images from the playtest for Project Rene aka The Sims 5 leaked out last week. These showed scenes from the construction mode as well as parts of the supposed neighborhood. In the meantime, a flood of other pictures has appeared, even showing prototypes of the Sims themselves. Theoretically, all of this allows some conclusions to be drawn about The Sims 5, but the matter is still a bit more complex. So before you form an opinion about the recordings, let’s classify the leaks a bit.
A notice: We do not directly show the leaked images in this article. However, if you want to take a look at them, you can find a summary at SimsCommunity.
Another leak shows prototypes of the Sims
Where are the pictures from? Many of the leaked screenshots can be found in the Sims 5 subreddit. Originally, however, the Twitter account @TheSims5_World that circulated the images. But we can’t understand that because the account no longer exists.
The material itself comes from the (already hacked) playtest version, which was already playable by a few selected players (who had to sign a non-disclosure agreement for it). Actually, the test revolves around building and design options (workshop tool), but prototypes of characters, i.e. the Sims, were also found in the code of the version.
All information about the next Sims game can be found in our overview:

Release, Multiplayer & Co. for Project Rene – all information and rumours
What can be seen in the leaked images? The majority of the images show apartments and their furnishings. So we get to see supposed first furniture and decorative items that match what was already officially released during the Project Rene announcement. Among other things, they suggest that in The Sims 5 we can place objects in a much more detailed way, thanks to which such as a bookshelf looks much more real and alive with its content.
In addition, parts of the neighborhood can be seen where we can see cars, cafes, garbage cans and other details. Everything looks very colorful and in a stylized look, as we are used to from the series.
Finally, for the first time, we’re seeing something of the Sims themselves, which have a different look than what we’ve been used to from The Sims. And now comes the big but! These are only prototypes, which should not be given any great importance.
More on The Sims 5/Project Rene:
The material is of little value
Regardless of whether you look at the images or not, we want to state that all of the footage from the leaks is from a very early version of the new Sims game.
Particularly noteworthy here are the Sims character models, which are only prototypes, so we can’t even begin to speak of finished versions. We do not know if these are models that are being worked out further for development or if they have already been discarded in the meantime. They primarily serve to get a feeling for the direction in which the developers want to go when designing the characters and to possibly simulate processes in the world after the first concept drawings.
So don’t let yourself be influenced by the material from the early version, nor by the prototypes or playtest itself. All leaks are of little significance and ultimately may differ greatly from the final game, which is many years away.
