WoW Dragonflight: Rare hunter pets by skinning!
Hunter Companion have always enjoyed great popularity in the World of Warcraft. At first it was the inner values of very specific pets, like the legendary puma “Broken Tooth” with its increased attack speed, after the standardization of all companion abilities, the countless different models are the focus of interest. Beauties like the rare spirit beast “Loque’nahak” from the Sholazar Basin, or the colossal furnace-like clefthoof “karst” from the Gorgrond Raid are in great demand, and the current expansion Dragonflight also has surprises in store for the hunters!
Rare Dragonflight hunter pets through skinning specialization
recently made WoW Petopiathe popular Jägerpet website, a hunter who two of the new ones Polar Bear Colorways had tamed, whose whereabouts were previously unknown, pointed out that these were rare colorings, only obtainable through Dragonflight Skinning:
bait making
Taming a Jägerpet by skinning? That sounds implausible, but it actually works:
That furriers is unique among gathering professions in that it is very easy to get the first 25-50 points. Once you reach 25 points, you can specialize.
To do this, open the skinning interface and select the specialization tree bait makingwho gave you the recipe Bait for shy creatures teaches. This one comes with 10x maybe meat crafted, which is currently super cheap on the auction house if you haven’t already collected it yourself.

Bait for shy creatures normally has a 12-hour cooldown, but decreases that time by 10 minutes each time you skin other creatures. In addition, the cooldown can be shortened further by investing your skill points in the championship-Invested Bait Crafting subspec tree.
Lay out the bait
To the Bait for shy creatures to use it, find an empty spot anywhere on the Dragon Isles (the zone doesn’t seem to matter). Then click on the bait in the inventory and place it somewhere near your feet.

After a few seconds, a chat message will appear “You hear a rustling nearby…“ and the summoned creature appears. This can look exactly like a “normal” version of the species in question, or it can be an interesting and exotic color variant. The type of creature is independent of the zone.

When the beast shows up, you can either kill it and skin it (you’ll often get species-specific skins and other rare materials like hides) or, if you’re a hunter or a hunter-friend is nearby, you can tame them instead.
The creature summoned with the lure is always level 70which means you can kill them at any character level, but you can only tame them at level 70!
Note that the hunter must be present to tame the creature when it is summoned! If you summon the creature on a character, exit combat and the game to switch to another character parked nearby, it will no longer be there.
Also, there is no way to summon a specific type of creature, let alone an individual color of the creature. With 5 rare dragonkin and 28 rare wild animals currently known, as well as a range of color variants for each type, it’s unclear exactly what you’ll be getting.
Bait Crafting Skill
If you are serious about companion hunting, you should choose the following spec:
- invested At least 10 points in “Baitmaking”to unlock the “Mastery” sub-spec and cooldown the Bait for shy creatures to reduce.
- then sets 20 points in the “Championship”to when summoning a Chance on the elite creatures to have. Since the polar bears mentioned at the beginning are elite wild animals, you need this spec to activate all potential color variants. At 40 points, you also gain the ability to attract rare creatures from certain areas.
