Overwatch 2 developers promise to fix issues with the game’s ranking system after the start of Season 2’s Competitive mode left players completely baffled.

Overwatch 2’s new ranking system has been criticized by many since its introduction. In addition to uneven matchmaking, the new mode has reportedly caused players to drop in rank despite winning many games.

The problems persisted when Season 2 began on December 6. While the latest patch brought Overwatch’s newest hero Ramattra into the fold, players were quick to notice some major issues with his range when they booted up the game.

Even though some players didn’t finish their 7 wins to see their next rank update, it seems the system took the result of their matches and adjusted their SR level accordingly.

Thats not all; To kick off the newest season, players who already had an upgraded rank also saw their SR ranks drop significantly and had no idea why.

Blizzard Responds After Overwatch 2 Players Blow Up In Ranked Update

In a statement about social networksthe Overwatch team explained that at the end of each season, the final ranking of players will be based on the matches played before their last update.

The developers went on to explain that when a season begins, they will apply the rank drop to all roles and state that players should be able to go back up to their true ELO.

“All matchmade games will continue to be based on your underlying MMR, ensuring we are making matchups as fair as possible,” they wrote.

However, Blizzard acknowledges that these changes came as a surprise to many and vowed to make things more understandable.

“We will address these issues and other parts of the system in the future,” the developers concluded.

Hopefully we’ll see some major improvements to Overwatch 2’s ranking system soon as more and more players grow increasingly frustrated with the changes made for the sequel.
