Furiosa: Filming for the Mad Max prequel has started
If you’re still thinking about the fast-paced blockbuster seven years later Mad Max: Fury Road and in your head occasionally whirls up dry desert sand with squeaking tires, then you feel like the director of the film, George Miller. As is well known, Miller cannot part with the Mad Max universe either and is working flat out on other films.
To the two sequels, one of which has the very appropriate title “The Wasteland” there is currently a drought of information: in 2018 it was said that the production of both films was initially put on hold due to a court dispute between Miller and Warner Bros. – a conflict that was probably resolved at the end of 2019, although there has been mostly radio silence since then. Most recently, Miller was busy working on the adult fairy tale Three Thousand Years of Longing anyway.
Furiosa: Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth roll into the Mad Max universe
But there is good news from another front: how Chris Hemsworth on twitter announced with an atmospheric photo that the shooting of the Prequel spin-off Furiosa began. The title already reveals who the film is about: the spotlight will be on Empress Furiosa, who Mad Max fans already know from Fury Road.
While Furiosa was embodied there by Charlize Theron, this time he is allowed to Anya Taylor Joy slip into the role of the logically younger Empress in the prequel. Taylor-Joy is best known for the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit, but has also appeared in two films directed by Robert Eggers, most recently the Viking epic The Northman. Hemsworth will play the film’s new, yet unnamed, villain.
Since the filming Furiosa have only just started the engines, it will of course still be a while before the film is released. In fact, the cinema date is already known: On May 24, 2024 should the prequel spin-off race onto the screen of the movie theaters. Then, in addition to lots of action, you can also admire landscape images from New South Wales in Australia, where the filming of Furiosa takes place.
