Overwatch 2: Blizzard takes special action against cheaters
If you want to play Overwatch 2, you have to meet a certain requirement, without which you will not be able to access Blizzard’s online shooter: you need a cell phone number. We will now explain to you what this is all about.
If you’re in Overwatch with a randomly assembled group, you’ll quickly notice that it can be really annoying. Toxic behavior is the order of the day in such random matches and spoils the fun of the game for many fans. In order to prevent this problem in Overwatch 2 at least a little, the developers have considered a restriction without which you will not be able to access the game.
Mandatory cell phone number makes it harder for toxic gamblers
Because as you can read in the small print of the Watchpoint package for Overwatch 2 in the Battlenet shop, you need a cell phone number to play Overwatch 2. Specifically, the conditions state:
“Internet connection, Battle.net Desktop App, and Battle.net account required to play. To play Overwatch 2, you must have a cell phone number associated with your Battle.net account.”
If you don’t have a cell phone number in your Battlenet account, you can’t play Overwatch 2. Also, each cell phone number can only be associated with one Battlenet account. So if the developers ban an account, the associated cell phone number is also burned and cannot be used for another account.
This should make it a little harder for cheaters and toxic players than before – after all, they can’t just create a new account, which would otherwise be very easy to do, especially given Overwatch 2’s Free2Play character. What do you think of this measure? Are you hoping for a more harmonious coexistence in the online shooter? Or do you see the measure as unnecessary patronage? Tell us in the comments!
