Overwatch 2 will replace part 1 entirely – no more 6v6 rounds
The developers of Overwatch 2 have once again made it clear to fans that Overwatch 1 will no longer exist when Overwatch 2 is released in October 2022 – the sequel will replace it completely.
The team behind Overwatch 2 answered questions from fans about the franchise and the sequel to Overwatch, which will be released in 2022, in an Ask Me Anything thread on Reddit. The developers confirmed an aspect that had already been announced to a certain extent, but had never been made so clear: Overwatch 1 disappears completely when Overwatch 2
appears.
Early Access primarily relates to the lack of a PvE campaign
“We use the term ‘Early Access’ to indicate that this is just the beginning of many new things coming into play”the developers write in the question thread. “We’re launching with new heroes, maps and features, but there are more of these coming seasonally – every 9 weeks. We recently released a roadmap detailing some of this content: A new hero is coming both in season 1 as well as 2, a new map in Season 2. Also, larger parts of the game that have always been part of the vision for OW2 will be released as part of the live service, including the introduction of the PvE campaign in 2023.
If OW2 on October 4th 2022 launches, it will be a replacement for the current live service.“
No more 6v6 rounds, Overwatch 1 client disappears in October 2022
So in that sense, Overwatch 2 will overwrite the previous game client, you won’t be able to switch between different versions. It has long been known that in the sequel, the PvP rounds will be switched to 5v5 with only one tank. And the term Early Access mainly means that the PvE component will not yet be in the game when you are allowed to start on October 4th, 2022.
While much of Overwatch 1’s content will still be part of Overwatch 2 (such as heroes and maps), some activities will no longer exist at all. Above all, 6v6 matches in which 12 players are divided into two teams. How do you like that? Should these modes remain – even if only in small parts – still in the game? Or will hardly anyone miss that? Write us in the comments!
