WoW priests have absolute power! And who do you give soul of power to?
Using the right cooldown at the right time is the difference between victory and defeat in World of Warcraft’s competitive endgame content. Be it in organized PvP to put the opposing healer under pressure in a targeted manner, be it in Mythic+ dungeons to squeeze out the last few seconds to stay under a certain time. The premier class of endgame PvE, mythical raids are all about the right and perfect timing. For absolutely everything.
External Cooldown: Suddenly everyone wants to be your best friend
If you now play a WoW class that can give an external buff to another player, and you also have something else on the chain, then you are a very welcome guest in the most demanding content of the online role-playing game. However, by deciding who to give your buff to, you are just as actively influencing the performance of the entire group as someone who decides not to run out of the deadly damage area on the floor of the combat area, but instead trusts in the magic power of the healers for convenience .
External Cooldown: When you have the power (hrhrhrhrhr)
One of the most powerful external cooldowns is soul of power the priest… well of course this is powerful for the classes and specs that take huge advantage of haste. So almost everyone. Not quite all. Nearly. Soul of Power (aka Power Infusion aka PI) increases a target’s haste for 20 seconds. Priests can use PI every two minutes.
OPTIMAL use PI every two minutes if you want, there are entire treatises on the internet about which class and specialization benefit the most from a Soul of Power buff. But…perhaps perfection isn’t what matters to every priest…maybe it’s more about karma and a good feeling?
Selfless, efficient, altruistic, egocentric?
Now let’s talk tacheles, priests! Which category of priests do you belong to? Are you after full efficiency without even thinking about giving PI to a non-top performer? Or are you a bit like WoW fan WolvesHaveArrived on Reddit?
“I could infarct some Mythic priests with my testimony, but I don’t have a Soul of Power strategy other than hitting someone with it and using my skills. In raids, I generally don’t have the ability to PI everyone give, but in dungeons everyone gets at least one. Every time I see the person struggling with DpS suddenly go up the meter after I PI them, it makes me dizzy. It does so much fun to see.”
So butter by the fishes: Are you an efficiency priest and always timed PI correctly? Are you more of an ego trip and giving yourself PI? Are you unselfish and just having fun, like WolvesHaveArrived and many other priests, watching low DpSers suddenly step on the gas? Are you like Cahillross and give the Soul of Power to the tanks to confuse the DpSers? Or do you even use a macro that Power Infusion misses on a randomly chosen target? We are excited! Of course, our little survey also affects other classes and specializations that can distribute an external buff CD to group members.
