Brewster is finally coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Players have been asking / demanding Brewster for years, like that clip from The mandalorian where Werner Herzog says “I would like to see the baby”Just instead of “baby,” it’s “adult bird barista.”

However, for a significant number of ACNH players, this is their first Animal Crossing game, which means they have never met Brewster. And that means they have never been offered pigeon milk in their coffee.

Let’s back up a bit. Brewster’s name is obviously a game of “Brew”, as in coffee, and “Rooster”, as in a male chicken. Brewster is no a male chicken, however, is, according to the Animal Crossing wiki, a Blue Rock Dove, which is the fancy name for their standard urban swamp variety pigeon. You know one: the gray guy who shakes his head and plagues parks and cafes all over the world. That’s the guy you want to make your coffee for, right?

Of course, Brewster rises above his flying rat brethren because he has graceful facial hair and a bow tie, marking him as a upper class Dove. He does not wear shoes, but he does wear an apron.

Brewster runs The Roost, which is his cafeteria in previous Animal Crossing games, where the music is a kind of sultry parlor piano, and the seats are occasionally filled with visiting villagers and even special characters like Tom Nook and Resetti. There is a full minigame in New Leaf, in which the player can take on a part-time job serving coffee in a special uniform, with a coffee bean reward for doing well.

But the best part of Brewster’s existence is a rare occurrence. Coffee is his main way of communicating with people, you see, and is otherwise quite taciturn, but every now and then he offers you a shot of pigeon milk to put in your coffee.

Fun fact: Brewster's birthday is October 15 ... which is the Animal Crossing Direct date, where we'll hear more about The Roost

It’s easy to assume that pigeon milk is just a funny Animal Crossing joke, because of course pigeons have no milk. They are birds, not mammals. They don’t even have nipples! But, it turns out, this pigeon milk may be Brewster’s special way of saying that he pleasures you.

You probably already knew that birds regurgitate their food to feed their babies, but did you know that it is actually called “harvest milk”? It is a secretion that comes from the lining of your digestive tract, and in pigeons and pigeons, it is known as “pigeon milk.” When these birds eat food, some of it is stored in a small bag in their throat, which they can then bark at will as sustenance for their closest and loved ones.

You might be thinking that definitely no wants pigeon milk in his coffee, and especially not after reading the Wikipedia description of her as “a semi-solid substance sort of like pale yellow cottage cheese,” but what if it’s a sign of Brewster’s affection? Harvest milk only happens when a bird has babies, after all, which implies that Brewster sees himself as a somewhat feathery father figure. Alternatively, you are trying to supplement your diet, because pigeon milk is rich in protein, fat, and antibodies.

Either way, The Roost is coming to Animal Crossing, and that means Brewster’s cottage cheese secretions are coming too. You have been warned.
