What would you like to see from Animal Crossing Direct?

Animal Crossing New Horizons Brewster

Alright, we’ll FINALLY get Brewster and The Roost in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, after what it feels like years of people asking. So, we are all totally satisfied and happy now, right?

Of course, no. Brewster was just the beginning. There are still a lot more features that people would love to see in New Horizons, and a lot of them come from New Leaf, the previous game. We’ve covered missing / requested features before, in celebration of the game’s first birthday, and even since April 2020, less than a month after launch, and, annoyingly, a lot of the stuff we wanted to see back then. is it so yet not in the game.

So … what else would we like to see in New Horizons? What would make us return to our abandoned islands? And what do we keep insisting on, almost two years after launch? Let’s get into it …

Brewster’s Roost improvements

We know we’ll get The Roost, but we don’t know what that is. half yet. The bird-run café will be inside the Museum, next to the art gallery, but will it be the same as New Leaf? In 3DS Animal Crossing, you could work at the cafe after ordering coffee a few times, and then participate in a little minigame, where you would serve coffee to the island residents. It was a bit of a tricky game, requiring the use of a guide if you wanted to get it right, but players would definitely love to have it in the game.

There was also the option to see concerts with KK Slider in Wild World and City Folk, although New Horizons has put KK Slider in the square. What if it rains? Poor soggy KK.

But what if we dream a little bigger? How about something new In the cafe? Maybe Brewster could hold seminars, TED talks, or … poetry nights. Maybe the cafe could turn into a bar at night (highly unlikely, given the familiar Nintendo vibes). Perhaps, given The Roost’s new location, there could be some kind of connection to the Museum itself!

Or, how about …

Gyroscopes

Gyroids. The Roost used to be closely tied to Gyroids, with Brewster offering storage, displaying them in the cafe, and even having his own Gyroid. Could the addition of The Roost spell the return of everyone’s favorite wavy bois? We sure hope so.

Gyros, in the past, stalked little statues that you could dig up, and each one made a different noise when you “activated” them. In the older games, they used to … sing, a little bit, to the music you played. Imagine placing them around KK Slider in the plaza on Saturdays!

Resetti, Gracie, Dr. Shrunk, Wendell and other special characters

Animal Crossing New Horizons Mr Resetti

Previous games have included a large number of characters, but most of them were included in Isabelle or Tom Nook in New Horizons. We know that Mr. Resetti is on the prowl, of course, since he runs the rescue service and has a small statue in the game, but … it is not the same.

New Horizons just doesn’t have as many visitors as it used to. How about the fashion-focused giraffe Gracie, or the hideous blank-faced cat, White? Maybe we could meet with Happy Home Academy employees, like Digby, Lyle, and Lottie, to bribe them for more HHA points? Or Katrina, the fortune teller, Dr Shrunk, the weird psychiatrist, Wendell the boss-selling walrus, Pete, Phyllis and Pelly the post office workers, Booker and Copper the policemen, Harriet the hairstylist, or even … Joan, The turnip-selling boar that has been replaced by Daisy Mae? WHAT HAPPENED TO JOAN, NINTENDO ?!

Above all, however, we would love to see Kapp’n. Not only because we love the old man, but because his appearance on the dock would mean the possibility of being taken on a new adventure.

We’d trade a hundred Zipper T. Bunnies for a look at our old friends.

More multiplayer activities and minigames

Tortimer Island

It’s lovely to be able to visit the islands of our distant friends during this pandemic, but LORDY just wants to pull his teeth through the myriad loading screens. Nintendo’s online multiplayer has never really been its strength, and the company seems to prioritize its cheesy in-universe loading animations and endless conversations with Orville over speed, which we can understand.

But at the end of the day, it would be nice to have more to do with those friends. Currently, we are quite limited to visiting each other’s islands in the online game, and that’s only fun for a while. We would love to have some experiences, adventures and games to do as a couple or in a group.

Tortimer Island, from Animal Crossing: New Leaf, was quite fun, albeit limited to that little island, but you could easily gather a few friends to help you catch all those lucrative fish and insects, which made your money a lot more. . Pleasant experience.

The May Day maze event with the return of Rover was one of our favorite events so far (although you guys preferred Halloween and Toy Day), so any expansion on that topic would be very welcome.

Batch production

Please. Please. We have already said our article about this enough times.

This also applies to buying things: let’s buy all the accessories without having to buy them one by one in the dressing room!

Reduced repetition

“You caught a sea bass! No wait, it’s at least a C +!”

Just throw us into the sea to drown us now, Nintendo. It would not be too complicated to add some more options for the dialogue that we will see A LOT, and the same goes for the mystery islands: some more types of islands would not be bad, especially when the tickets are expensive to buy and so it takes a long time to use.

Also, let’s cheer up the villagers a bit, huh? We are a little tired of hearing that story about the soap opera Maglevs in Love.

More bugs to catch

Having spent nearly two years catching fish insects and eventually deep sea creatures, many players will now have completed their Critterpedia and captured absolutely every creature in the game. There’s not much of a challenge anymore, once you’ve completed the Museum, and when Diving was added, it gave us something new to do for a while. Could it be possible to add another new way of catching creatures to the game?

As we’ve described before, you could have a special new NPC come to town once you’ve completed the Critterpedia, just like Professor Oak in the Pokémon games, and tell you all about rare, legendary, or even mythical creatures. they need to be caught. Or, perhaps, a new type of foliage or flower that attracts new insects, or a new element that allows you to discover things that you could not see before.

And if we’re really becoming a cake in the sky about it … how about a new place to go, full of rare and exotic fish and insects? Give us one good reason to get the bug net and fishing pole back!

The ability to change your resident representative

Resident representative
Image: Nintendo Life

It may have taken a while, but Nintendo finally updated the game to allow transferring your island to a new Switch using the special Island Transfer Tool. You can also move individual players to other islands if they are not the island representative, but currently it is not yet possible to change the resident representative of an island.

The resident representative has the ability to build new structures, relocate existing ones, pay off the mortgage, and generally make decisions for the city. Anyone you share the island with won’t be able to do those things without the Representative’s help.

If you have kids, roommates who no longer play the game, or roommates you no longer live with, this becomes a problem after a while. Why not give us a little more freedom?

A more useful Isabelle

Isabelle 900x

Listen, Iz, we love you, but … if you’re going to make us listen to your morning bulletins every day, please at least give us some useful information. Is Redd in town? Does Gulliver need our help? Tell us what we really want to know!

More furniture

Come back to us, rococo
Come back to us, rococo

We have pretty much everything we ever wanted. But collecting furniture is part of the reason we play Animal Crossing … would it be okay to ask for a little more? Some of us dream of the return of the Rococo Series, the Alpine Series, the Minimalist Series … and most of us look at Pocket Camp’s WEALTH of furniture (which you can interact with!) With envy.

Seasonal craft recipes, Nook Shopping options, and the occasional brand association (like the Sanrio collection) are welcome additions, but the slow drip of non-themed furniture is just too put up with.

Unbreakable tools

What else can we say? It is extremely frustrating to have to create multiple tools every day. Even Minecraft has a repair feature. Shouldn’t Golden Tools be unbreakable, anyway?

Store improvements and new stores

Remember this?
Remember this?

We’d love to revitalize our little island a bit more, and since Kicks joined the Able Sisters and Leif’s shop has been reduced to nothing more than a cart, we wonder what else we could get hold of. Do you remember the hairdresser / stylist from New Leaf? Sure, we can do it ourselves now, but it’s not the same. Or how about Dr Shrunk’s weird nightclub?

We would have to reorganize our perfectly designed city, but it would be worth it for more to spend our money on, after paying the mortgage.

Cooking?

We already have crafts … how about a little cooking minigame? Give us something to do with all the fruits, fish and nuts we have, in addition to selling them, making crafts with them, accidentally eating them and having to go to the bathroom, just like in real life.

More life

This one is general and touches on a lot of things we’ve already said, but … what we love about Animal Crossing is that it felt like a little life. New Horizons is very focused on the decor aspect, which is nice, but that means life missing a bit.

The villagers seem a little less interesting and there just aren’t that many things to do or interact with. No one visits your home uninvited anymore (although maybe that’s a good thing). Because the crafting, styling, and customization are done by you now, there is less reason to hang out around town or with other characters. Although you are no longer the mayor of the entire city, you actually talk to people. less. It is a very lonely life.

Maybe The Roost will change that … or maybe not.

A reason to come back

Many of us don’t really know what we want, specifically, we’re just waiting for a reason to get back in the game, after abandoning it months ago for one reason or another.

Whether it’s a massive update, a game-changing addition, or just the “more life” we talked about earlier, what we’d love to see is something that draws us back. Brewster alone will sadly not be enough for many.

We can only hope.

Are you still playing Animal Crossing on Switch? Will any of the above bring you back to the game? Let us know in the comments below!
