Banshee Queen Cliodhna Available Now on Spooky Smite Update

The Queen of the Banshees update marks the arrival of Cliodhna, the newest Celtic goddess, available now at Hurt on Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S.

The wails of the Banshees ring out across the emerald isle, their grieving wail the herald of doom upon a house, for death now awaits beyond the door. Few symbols of the Celtic era have outlasted the Banshee, and none of that dreaded pedigree is more famous than its matriarch Cliodhna. Banshee’s scream survives even in the modern world as a parallel to an intolerable sound of horror where one’s first instinct is to cover one’s ears to block out such horrible power noise. However, while you must heed the danger of Cliodhna’s terrible dirge, it is its silence that is far more terrifying.

We created Cliodhna to be an assassin with a team that goes beyond mere waiting behind a wall; she is within the walls, lurking invisibly until its prey is most vulnerable and then attacking with the fury of a graveyard screech. Cliodhna embodies the gruesome aspect of the months of October, allowing players to take on the role of the midnight terror, stalking their enemies and attacking without warning. Other games hit you with jumpscares, but like Cliodhna, is it so the jumpscare.

As powerful as her passive ability to wait within walls may be, staying too long will sap her health and leave her vulnerable. However, thanks to her second active ability, Flickering Visions, the Banshee Queen can remain invisible even in broad daylight, cursing her target with the inability to detect Cliodhna and granting her a speed boost for a quick escape. The skill showcases the unique play style the goddess offers – take on the role of the haunting spirit and your enemies will fall straight into the grave.
