The Animal Crossing: New Horizons update is packed with great things to find, and not all of them are immediately obvious. In fact, some weren’t even on Animal Crossing Direct!

Here are the 29 things that brought us joy as we explored our new Paradise 2.0, most of them from the free update, for everyone to enjoy!

A more efficient DAL

Isabelle

Now you can fly from Harv’s Island directly to Happy Home Paradise, and vice versa!

Permanent stairs are customizable

President Nook

Are you tired of the ugly stairs? Yes we too. But don’t be blue, because now your ladder can be blue! Or yellow, or red, or white, or …

Advice

Download the Island Life 101 app and you’ll get tips on your loading screen.

New Home Exteriors

Now some new options are available to personalize your home, so you can turn your home into a cute Christmas cottage or pastel beach bungalow.

Fisheye lens and new filters

The new Pro Camera app gives you the option to switch to first-person mode and take selfies, but it also comes with new filters: Fisheye, Retro, and Surveillance are our current favorites.

You are not the only one who is bad at stretching

If you have tried the new square stretching exercise, you probably know that it is surprisingly hard. Fortunately, you are not alone. Phew.

Bottled recipes tell you what they are before you open them

This is just a cute touch, but it’s still lovely! Now you can see if something is a food recipe or a DIY recipe. Of course, you still have to open it to find out what it will teach you!

Scooching

This was in the Direct, but you may not appreciate how good scooping is until you do. Small spaces between a sofa and a coffee table? Not a problem anymore, buddy! Get out!

The secrets of Brewster and Kapp’n

Take a look at some of the details at The Roost and you’ll see a warehouse full of gyros and photos of old Animal Crossing memorabilia. Awww!

Also, Kapp’n has a small photo of his New Leaf family, and their little shop, on their boat.

Invite old friends to the chicken coop

With Animal Crossing amiibo figures or Series 5 Animal Crossing amiibo cards, you can now invite old friends like Resetti, Digby, Pelly, Booker, DJ KK, Katie, and Gracie to The Roost and Harv’s Island.

The four buttons on the face, X, Y, A, and B, serve a purpose when you’re on Kapp’n’s ship.

Pressing A will allow you to clap to the beat of Kapp’n songs, Y will make you laugh, and X will make you respond in shock. And we can’t think why you would want this, but B will make Kapp’n stop singing.

New and improved news from Isabelle

FDUS2 WFWYAASw U9

Isabelle will now tell you who visits the island, be it Kicks, Leif, Saharah or Redd, so you no longer have to run all over the island to find out yourself!

Katrina’s special power

Katrina used to count your fortune and predict your luck, but now she can also check your friendship levels with your villagers! However, it is strange that she knows that, she just arrived.

High card Low card

Villagers can visit their houses, but now they can also play with you. They will invite you to play a high card, low card game, where they turn over a card and ask if the next one is higher or lower. Get it right for a prize!

Ione glows in the dark

One of the new villagers is this adorable celestial chipmunk named Ione. That galaxy tail isn’t just for show, Ione actually glows in the dark. We are a little terrified of what that means.
