In Battlefield 2042 you can be faster than with a helicopter thanks to the wingsuit

The wingsuit is one of the new gadgets that appear for the first time in Battlefield 2042. Now a player has shown in an impressive clip how mobile you are with it. He used an old shooter trick.

What kind of gadget is that? The wingsuit allows you to slide down from almost any elevated point on the map. You can also build up a lot of speed in the process.

The gadget belongs to the specialist Sundance, with which you can also put together a very powerful loadout for XP farms.

In the clip from timtheringitdyding you can see how powerful the gadget is and how fast you can move around the map with it – faster than with vehicles or planes such as helicopters:

23-year-old shooter trick makes you even faster

How does the player do it? To move around the map like this, you have to pay attention to a few details.

  • The wingsuit can be activated from a low height, comparable to a parachute.
  • You are fast on the move with it, but you also lose altitude. So a little practice will be needed to get the controls up and running.
  • The player flies on the map “freight list” (Engl .: Manifest) so flies from container to container.
  • It is important to open and close the wingsuit at the right moment.
  • In addition, there is an old trick, because the player uses the so-called “bunny hopping”: With a small jump directly on landing, he prevents Sundance from losing speed on landing.
  • This “bunny hop” leads directly to the next wingsuit flight, which is no slower than the last.
  • This greatly increases the total distance covered without the player losing much speed.

What is bunny hopping? In its basic form, bunny hopping means that you jump at the right moment while moving forward and so hop through the map in a steadily hopping form.

If bunny hopping is used correctly, you won’t lose any speed and keep moving your hit boxes, which makes targeted hits very difficult. The method comes from the ancient shooter Quake from the late 90s. It was first used in 1998 in a “Quake done Quick” (via sourceruns.org).

The trick had already been discovered during the open beta of Battlefield 2042, when players used bunny hopping in conjunction with the grappling hook. But that was fixed before the release.

Here the player uses a jump at the right moment to continue flying and to open the wingsuit again immediately after landing. As a result, he “catapults” himself further and further and can sweep over the map at lightning speed.

But the end of the clip also shows that this can go wrong pretty quickly. The player lands right within range of a tank and is killed.

Mixed opinions on the gadget – “This is not a wingsuit, but a jetpack”

What do the players say? They’re pretty torn. On the one hand, they celebrate the gadget because it’s incredibly fun to whiz around the map with it. On the other hand, they criticize that the wingsuit is far too powerful and that it also destroys the immersion of the realistic battlefield.

Some people find the wingsuit just funny and make comparisons to other games. Insincere_Apple2656 thinks that the gadget is reminiscent of the “raccoon suit from Super Mario”. (via reddit)

Some compare it to the raccoon suit from Super Mario.

Comparisons to Spider-Man, Apex Legends and Titanfall are also drawn.

Noir_Vena-Cava writes, “This looks like a jetpack, not a wingsuit” (via reddit). TrickiestCOL therefore says: “The wingsuit must be adapted so that it only works from a certain height, for example a 2-story building. Another badly implemented design feature ”(via reddit).

medium0rare replies: “Maybe. From the videos it looks like it was [Sundance] the only fun part of the game. “

R15K comments, “If you’d showed me this a month ago and said, ‘This is the next Battlefield,’ I would have called you a liar and not believed they’d fit that in.”

What do you think of the wingsuit? Do you see it as a meaningful innovation? Or does it not fit in with Battlefield for you either?
