Halo Infinite Multiplayer: How the Ranking System Works

If you want to play competitively in Halo Infinite, you should choose the Ranked Playlist.
If you want to play competitively in Halo Infinite, you should choose the Ranked Playlist.

Even if the competitive idea in Halo Infinite’s Free2Play multiplayer is of course unquestionably present, a certain playlist takes it a step further: the ranked matches. Here your skills will be assessed by the game and you will be assigned a rank, based on which you will then be drawn against opponents. So if you really want to play Halo Infinite competitively, you’ve come to the right place.

Important: We recommend newcomers to avoid the ranked playlist first and to warm up in the other modes first. Lots of ambitious players cavort here and there is a good chance of getting on your socks.

In the ranked mode, some elements and conditions are also adjusted:

  • All start with an assault rifle, the BR75 (“BR Starts”)
  • The motion sensor is deactivated
  • Friendly fire is activated, so you can injure team members
  • Grenade hit markers are disabled

The basics of the rank system

If you join the ranked matches, the game will assign you a starting rank after ten matches have been completed, based on your individual performance in these games. You can increase this rank if you play more ranked matches, but you can also fall behind.

How does the game notice this? According to the game, one’s rank is improved if one “plays better than expected”. That sounds pretty unspecific and is not detailed. From previous experience, however, it is mainly the individual performance that is evaluated, i.e. factors such as the K / D ratio, support or the completion of objectives help to improve the rank. Matches do not necessarily have to be won; inferior players can also improve their rank.

There are a total of five different ranks in multiplayer, some with different levels:

  • Bronze (with levels 1-6)
  • Silver (with levels 1-6)
  • Gold (with levels 1-6)
  • Platinum (with levels 1-6)
  • Diamond (with levels 1-6)
  • Onyx

If you are bronze level 6, you will receive the silver level 1 rank, etc. Reaching the onyx rank is accordingly demanding and for everyone who achieves it, a certain distinction.

Restart after each season? It is not yet really clear whether the ranks will be reset after a season has expired or will remain permanently – we suspect the former. This gives competitive fans a new incentive every season to work their way all the way to the top.
