When we think of CD Projekt Red’s development studio, two well-known IPs immediately come to mind: The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. Although the development team is working on the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S versions of the two games, new projects should start next year that will consume some resources.

Cyberpunk and The Witcher have offspring

Why is? In an interview that was done through the Polish medium Republic was released, President Adam Kicinski spoke about the future of CD Projekt. The interviewer asked whether there are plans to raise a third major IP alongside Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher. Kicinski replied as follows:

We are currently focused on our two franchises. Both have tremendous potential, which is why one of our strategic goals is to work in parallel on AAA projects within the IPs we own, which is expected to happen as early as next year.

CD Projekt Red does not seem to have any plans to build further franchises, but wants to further strengthen its two largest IPs Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher. This further confirms that a new The Witcher for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S will follow. A few weeks ago, the development studio was looking for someone to do the open world design Fantasy RPG. On the other hand, the reference to a full-fledged successor to Cyberpunk 2077 turns out to be newer, as there are still some patches for the title from 2020 pending in order to further improve the technical condition and deliver free content.

These are the plans of CD Projekt Red

Back in March, CD Projekt Red announced that the development studio would start in 2022 several AAA titles at the same time want to work. But it shouldn’t come back to crunch times like in the development of Cyberpunk 2077, the well-being of the employees should come first.

In the interview, Kicinski also stated that less than a third of the 660 employees are working on the updates and the PS5 or Xbox Series X / S versions of Cyberpunk 2077. Since the updates and versions should appear in 2022, there would be more room for the development of the two suspected The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 titles after the release.

But it will be a few years before we find out what the new AAA games are really about, because CD Projekt RED intends to wait until shortly before the release date with the advertising campaign in the future. Accordingly, we should be prepared for a long period of time before we will learn the first details about the new AAA titles.

But no matter what the future brings, it is clear that the company wants to remain independent and will therefore not be sold. Since Cyberpunk’s catastrophic launch in 2077 led to a collapse in the company’s stock market value, the question of a foreign investor had become great. Kicinski explained, however, that an external takeover should be made as difficult as possible and that the studio should remain independent.

What would you like from the successors of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077?
